Does anyone know the standard Focus 2.0 wheel offset. what ET it should be?

Fitted some alloys from a Mondeo and they are catching the arches.

The original alloys where 16 inch fitted with 205/50/16s and never caught the arches.

The Mondeo ones are 16 inch with 205/55/16 tyres and they seem to stick out further then the original alloys?

Just need to know the offset of best offset for the Focus as the originals sat too inside the arch for my liking where as the Mondeo wheels fill the arches nicely - but catch the arches

 

Should be +40 minimum .... I have a set of aftermarket Focus wheels on My XR4Ti and they are +40

 

Are the Mondeo ones original or aftermarket?
They may not have been the correct offset for the Mondeo.

It's not the offset, it's the profile, 55, that's the problem you've increased the diameter by another 20mm, so the tyre is 10mm closer to the arch.
The 50's must have been failry close.

Theyre the 5 spoke mondeo alloys that came on the mondeo mk2 zetec as standard.

Got a feeling they stick out too far, though somebody said they are a ET42 and my standards where ET40 ? but there seems a massive difference in how far these stick out compared to the old standard alloys, they must stick out a further inch, they are flush with the arch lip of the car now where as the old ones sat inside the arch?

How does offset work, is it higher the number the more they stick out, lower the number the more they stick in, so ET45 would stick out more than ET35 would?

Appears my standard alloys where et52 and the mondeo are et40 ?

are u sure the mondeo wheels arn't +40 and the old focus wheels -40, thats a 3ish inch differents, may be the other way round, but if the wheel mounting is dead centre of the wheel, then offset is 0, then depending weather u need to bring the wheel in or push it out it goes up or down in mm, so a difference between + and - 40mm is 80mm, 75mm = 3 inches, the profile shouldn't matter as it should move inside the arch and never touch.

I just thought alloys were ET and then the number, ET40, ET41 , 2, 3 etc ?

The mondeo alloys are definately ET40 and the original Focus alloys where ET52? Thats what i cant understand, i know Peugeot alloys fit ford but stick out of the arch, and they are ET20 or something?

i think there 42 on the offset, having bought a second hand set of wheels before for my fiesta that were no good and looking into it they were supposed focus offset?

As you can see the standard silver alloys where whats on, but when i fitted a set of the mondeo alloys in silver, same alloys, they stick out too far?

 

Standard Focus wheels are ET52 (so the hub face is 52mm away from the centreline of the wheel), I can't remember what offset the Mondeo wheels are but you should not, generally speaking, go lower than ET42 on a Focus - wheel width and tyre sizes will affect that though so you could in theory go a lower offset with a skinnier wheel and tyre but probably not in your case here.

I'd suggest it's the tyre causing you issues at the moment.

 

Cut the lips off the front wings, cured the scrubbing, however we didnt even go there with the rears as its clearly the wheels sat right in line the the wing, just waiting for a set of alloys to come up on eBay near me. Thanks

 

I've just chucked on my 8x16 et25 comp TH's onto my 2002 focus estate no problem at all?

 

Quoting ET's is pointless without quoting the wheel width to go with it. Et is the distance between the imaginary centreline of the wheel to the inside mating face, so two wheels could both be ET40 but if one wheel is a 6X15 and another is a 7X15 then the 7inch rim will stick out half an inch further inside towards the suspension and also outside towards the arch.

 

That makes sense too, didn't think of that part, as the original 5 twin spoke silver wheels are 6 or 6.5j but i think the mondeo are 7j ?

Exactly what I was going to say...


Two choices really,make the car fit the wheels or remove them.


Think like this...

Et 0 is the wheel centered on the centerline.

Et + pushes the wheel face in.
Et- brings the wheel face out toward you're arch.


If it were Et 0
And the wheel went from 6j to 7j
You have added 1/2 an inch either side of the centerline without changing Et.


Let's say(using you're example) you have went from 6 to 7j,and from +52 to +42...

1/2 inch plus the 10mm from the Et..

Assuming you are using the same Tyres would take it 22mm closer to the arch.



Try a lower profile tyre and roll/pull the arch slightly.
