Default sound at speed??

Hi, I know this is kind of dumb but why does the ammount of wind noise vary from car to car?

I mean in my old alfa 75 the wind noise wouldn t bother me until i was doing 120+ kph. in the mk3 fiesta i had it would start at around 100 kph maybe 110, and in my mk4 cortina it starts at around 70-80 kph

does this have to do with aerodynamics and car stability at high speed??

also i ve owned and or driven quite a range of different cars and the speed at which the wind noise starts to be loud and irritating varies from one to another.

I m talking just the wind noise not suspention squeaks or the sound of bumps and potholes or the engine. just that kind of whisling the wind makes against your car when driving

It's purely due to the shape of the car, and the condition of things which prevent noise intrusion into the cabin, such as window rubbers and door seals.

Goto take soundproofing into consideration too!

What I will say is my 406 is dead quiet 70mph+ BUT yesterday I knocked the drivers door seal off, and it's much louder now!

my merc e430 was quiet all the way to 155mph limiter, didn't have to raise voice or stereo, was as if your were still doing 30, just the veiw went by a little faster.

never tried that, the worse i had was in a vauxhall viva powered by a boa. it was awesome apart from the noise (of the wind cause the engine sound was great) after 1 1/4mile run i had to wear earplugs as the noises were unberable!
