focus 1.4 to st170 engine
hi all seen a coversion kit on ebay to convert your focus to an st170 i currently have a 1.4 and just wondered how much work it would be?
would i have to change the complete wiring loom?
has anyone done it before and is there a thread?
any advice would be great

I would think its a yes to the loom well the frount part of it as theres a lot more going on you would all so need the ST clocks / ECU / the chips out of the keys and the ring that gose on the barrol to make the ECU come to life . all i can say to you need to look into this very deep

Sell 1.4
Buy ST170.
Done.
As above, lots going on with newer cars to start doing engine swaps, bear in mind the ST170 doesn't have a return on the fuel system and has a dedicated module to drive the fuel pump.
If you want to do the conversion surely the best way would be to buy a complete car (salvage/damage repairable) so you've got EVERYTHING you need.

Another with the same thoughts, just buy an st170, they're cheap enough now. Not sure on why you'd want to do the conversion though. After a 1.4 it will be quick but its a lot of work to have whats essentially a mild performance car i'd want more than 170(at best) for all that work.

As such they differ totally from the 1.8/2L Zetec-E and ST170 for example inlet and exhaust manifolds oppose each other, different suspension etc.
Do a search on 1.6 to 2L etc and you will see exactly whats involved, so to cut a long question short, unless you are really attached to the car, sell and buy the bigger engine to start with.
Insurance will most likely be more as it's a modified car!
Incidentally, not only the loom but the St170 also utilities "Black Oak" engine management, so totally different to "EEC" which you currently have!
IMO if I was looking for a performance Foci it would be the MK2 ST (225) or MK1 FRS, both are quite affordable now!
