Default big engine small cars

Have they died out?

I've tried looking for old school cars, metro gti, ax gt, ax gti, and a few others there doesnt seem to be much about

I've always liked old school small cars, xr2 fiesta etc

If you were to choose a modern car (ford hopefully-not mandatory) what engine would you put it in?

I've always liked the mk6 fiesta, but i dont see any NA engine that would make it quick (6-8 seconds to 0-60) I'm not a fan of turbo engines.
( i know there's a fiesta st, but i like building a project car)

Cheers

I don't understand why ford haven't put the engine out of the 500 arbarth essesse in the KA considering they share the same platform?

I used to have a Sportka and always wanted a 2.3 Zetec or ST170 on bodies up front of it
Miss that little car, Great fun

I prefer these old cars, even though by ,odern standards they are slow and unreliable, classics like RS turbo engine'd XR2s, XE engine'd nova's, 205 Mi16s, bring back the good old days!

Guy locally to me has one and fuck me that is one fast car!!! Watched it destroy a 400bhp impreza one night!! A AX with. Saxo vts engine on bodies does the rounds too...its fairly dusted a few quick cars!

Ohh and this time last year i was sailing about in a mk3 astra saloon with a cavalier 2.5v6 with 3.0 v6 bits and bobs. Loved toying with the few mk2 focus rs'
i had a wee blip against

Out of newer cars, I'd like a Lupo GTi with a 1.8 20v Turbo running healthy power... that would be a proper giggle.

To keep it N/A you could stick in a VR6, but it'd be tight and might screw up the handling a bit with such a heavy engine in the front of it.

Cheers,
Grant

Would love a 1.8t BAM engined Mk2 GTi Golf, or a z20let Corsa C (in Club spec for a proper sleeper)

I've got an xr2 with a zetec turbo engine, it's too powerful to be honest, struggle with grip till fifth really.
Not much around these days that is light enough with enough power.

My mate has a red mini with a 240 brake QED built xe in it, got 10" wheels plastic windows and all the classic stuff like chrome quarter bumpers, I've been in some fast cars in my time but this thing, altho not the fastest out right, is the most manic little bundle of craziness I've ever been in, torque steers like crazy but adds to the fun!

XE Minis are awesome.

Is he not using the equal length shafts? or does he have play in the bottom arm bushes? It should be possible to get the torque steer down to more or less nothing if its done properly.

Wonder if they still handle well with a V6 up the front though?

i've just come over from the pug side,
Mine was a sundance yellow 106gti.
One of them with a jp4 engine with cams and throttle bodies feel immense, let alone turbo and supercharger conversions!Changed because i wanted something more reliable , chose ford! lol 2 weeks and my gear box screws the diff, just by reversing into my carpark space

There are a couple of 106/saxo's at Coombe regularly, one is turbo and the other is on tb's, still using the 1.4/1.6 engines, fcuk me they abuse some well spec'd cars and driven like they're stolen!

We have three clios mate.
Mk1 - williams engine on custom inlet and hotter cams
Mk1 - project im trying to build with a honda turbo engine
Clio 172 - Standard at the moment, the mrs does trackdays in it

The turbo one I posted on here about recently is from MWMsport and I just did some mapping on it with them.
That thing goes REALLY well

I saw the graph, looks very smooth in delivery too!

Does the 206GTI have the same engine as the clio?

No mate, it peugeot and citreon that share engines, renault tend to do their own thing as they arent part of the same group.

In pistonheads there's a fiat 126 with a 1000cc yamaha bike engine. Gotta be worth having a go in.
