as mentioned above, the difference between c02 and argon is like night and day, there is no way i would ever weld again with c02 it gives such a shite weld

Thankyou Paul i really appriciate the pictures! just what i was looking for! and i got to say for what little reviews there are online for this machine there all full of praise so deffo dont think it would be a step in the wrong direction! was looking at Murex before i saw this machine but for the sake of the tig this has pulled me into wanting the thermal arc! also size and weight goes for it too! its not something i will be using daily just home garage use.
if i was wanting mig only i would go purely for the murex. for something your not doing daily i think those welds are a great start! did you set up the machine based on the machines settings on the inside cover?

on the inside cover it tells you which way round you need the polarity plug etc for different types of mig welding only ie migging stainless , aluminium , mild etc
its abit of a read when you start but its worth it , and i only used the amp guide and then practiced on different thicknesses of metal tweeking the settings to best suit my needs
cheers paul

now that sounds like the dogs , thats the only thing that lets the thermal arc machine down that its not pulsed as this is how you get fantastic neat welds in tig mode.
the thermal arc fabricator 181i is inverter based instead of transformer with gives you a very stable welding arc in all modes plus the machine only weighs 14.9 kg which is around the same as a hand bag. also in mig mode it goes down to 10amps and upto 180amp which is better than a portamig machine. now if you wanna learn mig , tig and stick then you cant get better than this machine imo for the price as it was meant to be £1000 and is on offer with a stick tool , euro tourch for around £580
the tig touch is around £100 mark so its great value for money.

Yea seen that. When Zeta said £580, I assumed that was the purchase price. Not £580 + robbingbastardtax
Still looks like a great machine. Until Ive used this 15kg roll of stainless though, I wont be changing lol

Mines a murex tradesmig 245 single phase, rare as fook machine but i dont care what any 1 says its 1 of the best welders ever! theses still fetch getting on for £500 and there 15 yrs old now. Imo co2 is very good for penetration but you do get a fair bit of splatter, argon gives a "prettier" weld thow.

yeh it was originaly going to be a Murex and its what i have been looking for but this one popped up being Tig also it made me sway towards this machine! been searching everywhere for reviews and for what i could find they are all positive! its not going to be a day to day machine just hobby garage work so didnt need industrial but wanted something better than a clarke that would actuly give exellent penitration on a 6mm bit of steel rather than making a pretty mess that falls of after.

What sort of settings would you use for that work ? Even a pic of the front end ?

My work bought this one as a investment.
Think it had to be brought from holland or somewhere in europe anyway as nowhere in the UK had one to rent and the american guys who are using it to weld invar wanted a water cooled one.
Ive no idea about welders and no one in my work can even use it

So work decided to buy it and rent it to the americans when they have to come over and fix tools over here.
Worked out well as we have only had it a month or 2 and its already paid for itself
The extension cable for it which is 100m was £750 ffs

Its a nickle steel alloy and they use it for large tools to make aircraft parts which are up to 60 feet long. They use it when making carbon fibre parts as it has a low CTE as these tools all go into the autoclave.
I dunno what welder they use in america when they make the tools as they were having to weld 1" thick plates together. Think it was at least 6 full welds 60 foot long. I think its very hard to get a really good weld and the customer asks for ridiculas vacuum checks to be performed on the tools at autoclave tempterature.
