The engine is the easy bit, its getting the transmission and steering working you want to worry about mate!

You need the rear end from something rwd to be grafted into the back of your car, then you can bolt up a type 9 gearbox to the 1.6 focus engine if you want

Like I said though, the engine is the easy bit, its like asking what wing mirrors should you use.

rwd focus is fun, would love to do one myself, kugel komponents do a bolt in kit to convert a focus to rwd, not to bad on price either, i took their red focus out for a test drive, it did pull well, but then it should wth a 420hp 5.0 v8, here is a british one though having some fun, maybe even a member on here.

no point going for 1.6 focus engine, go for either a well specd pinto on 45's if you can afford it or a 2.0 zetec on either bike carbs or 45s

the weight advantage of the sigma 1.6 over the pig iron pinto is a no brainer, same power give or take after its been tuned with carbs/ITB`s etc in my oppinion,

or going to that extent then a 1700 pump lump is same job to fit, plenty plenty RWD stuff on the market as the kit car brigade LOVE these engines, checp, readily available and VERY VERY tuneable!

Sean.

Personaly I wouldn't bother with the 1.6, by the time you tune it up to a lightly tuned 2.0 sort of power level it'll cost loads and will be fairly highly strung.

No it won't, set of SS4 cams, full exhuast, Shawspeed HD bottom end bolts if you want to raise the rev limit, and a re-map and you're looking at 140-150bhp, and it won't be hightly strung, know loads running that power daily! Mine will be soon.

Orrr, you can make a tubo manifold, stick a T25 on, and a de-comp plate and run 200-ish bhp happily. Ollie Clarke ran a turbo'd 1.6 in time attack for a year and gave it death, and it's still running now in a customers car!

Carbs?

It is 1975 again already?

You started off so well with the "no point going for a 1.6 focus engine" bit and then you just went epically downhill from there with the stupidest suggestions ever

With regards to the 1.6

Neil roper head, set of michael woodford cams, set of bodies and some pocketed pistons, gave over 170bhp on one I mapped recently, but no torque at all, RWD focus needs 300bhp to be worth building IMHO, preferably a lot more, Ians was spot on with 450

It probably wouldnt be worth fitting the 1.6 after going to the effort of doing the conversion. Maybe think about something with a higher output and more tuning ability. Cosworth engine ect. Also best to try and plan ahead and make sure you have room for certain components. At the end of the day though it is your car and you can put whatever you want in it.

Just buy a 2litre zetec and turbo it if you're really serious about RWD'ing the escort.
