Default Number plate info

My great uncle died in the 90's but had a private plate he would move between his e-type jags, he had 5 brand new e-types over his life. My great aunt recently passed away and left her estate to my dad. My great uncles number plate is on the wall in the garage. It is his 2 initials followed by a 2 digit number. My dad thought he might have sold the plate but doesn't really kno. Is there anyway to check with the dvla who rhe plate is registered too. I checked a couple if online car checkers and no data is found on the plate. Also, any ideas what a two letter followed by two numbers plate might be worth?

Cheers

that normally means its on retention

many questions you need to answer:

did your relative renew the retention fee after he died
where is the paperwork
has your dad got it in writing his is entitled to said number plate in the will

If it ain't registered on a car, then the dvla have probably nicked it back, unless your aunt kept paying the yearly fee.

It is worth more than plates that go two numbers then two letters.

Without knowing what it is I'd say 3k as a safe minimum but it can easily be more.

If it was on retention and the fees were not paid, it is probable that the DVLA now have it in a pool of plates to be re-issued at some point through auction.
