escort mk4 amp divider thing
on the mk4 you get the amp and equalizer divider i think it is so my question is can you put a after market head unit in there or a single din gauge slot?

thats a good question. ive just installed a pioneer stereo, all mod cons and some new speaker front AND rear. the head unit works/play cd's ect but zero sound. i point the problem to needing an amplifier but thought the stereo would have one built in. as i go my power/earth from elsewhere on the car i obviously havent wired up the amp. my question is, does the mk4 base model escort have a amplifier of some sort and if so, which wire (car side) should i look for. on another note, halfords are shit. the radio should have a remote, mine was missing. also was told by the little gibbon in charge of audio equipment i need a ariel adapter. i didnt. guess whos going to get a ''scene'' in the morning. thanks fellas

How have you wired the headunit? To the speakers? It won't need an amp it will have one built in.

yes, ive wired new speakers to a new head unit via new wires. i bypassed the old stereo wires instead getting my power source elsewehere. i also bypassed the oe speaker wires. is it possible i bypassed the cars factory built amp? i would have thought the new stereo had on built in though? pioneer deh-1300

In my poverty spec orion iirc i had the joystick effort and had a frikkin headache when fitting a new headunit. Its not wired as simply as the 4 corners ie twin core cable to each speaker there's an obscure way it is wired to work. We just ran new wires all round the whole car in the end after a day of cable chasing and head scratching. We could get sound but not out of all 4 speakers.
When i had an orion with the amp i had an iso connector that you plugged the amp and headunit plugs into and there was only just enough cable from the amp to reach.
Its been a few years so i've tried to remember as best i can
