We tested an open foam cone, a sealed (Pipercross Viper) filter and a foam panel filter in the standard airbox on an ST200 - We tested the inlet temps at idle, 50mph, 80mph, and under acceleration between 20-80mph.

The standard airbox gave a 113% increase when compared to ambient V full throttle inlet temps, the open filer gave a 138% rise, and the shielded cone just 22%!

Pretty conclusive. Just make sure that there is a good, unrestricted supply of fresh cold air from the front of the vehicle to the filter.

Moosing's nothing to do with heat soak - it's the noise the standard induction set up can produce. It can be cured by an induction kit, not caused by it.

All the filters were Pipercross to give some 'standardisation' to the test. The results would be very similar no matter what brand was used, and K&N aren't any more, or less likely to suffer from heat soak than any other brands.
