Default Is my branches suppose to get red hot?

Hi, I replaced my exhaust manifold with custom made branches and it get so hot it turn red, however no 1 piston is rather cold while 2,3,4 turns red. Can anyone tell me if this is normal and if its not normal, what can be the possible cause of it?

If 3 are glowing and 1 isnt, then clearly there is a problem.

But you dont state under what running conditions it is happening.

If sitting idling, then it should never glow. If flat out stationary on a rolling road with no airfow, then chances are it would glow.

If timing was heavily retarded that would cause it to glow, all 4 of course. If one isnt, that could point to a missfire or non working cylinder. But then that should be blatantly obvious as to how the car is running.

Or a cam related problem, valvetrain etc.

I drove when it happened, we are tuning the carb because the car uses a lot of feul, there is a misfire on the car but I can't seem to get mor than 120 km a hour out of it and according to my knowledge I am suppose to get at least 200 km a hour out of that car. Can retarded timing make it so slow, dead and lazy. My fuel consumption is around 5km on a litre and if I'm correct it must be around 12km per litre, can this be caused from retarded timing?

By the sounds of things it is running like a pig. Just fix it, and return all settings to factory standard.

Buy a Haynes manual, or whatever similar manual may be available to you locally if you dont have the knowledge to do this.

And if you know that the carb isnt correct, and there is a missfire, why are you even trying to drive quickly ? Just fix it.

The problem could be as simple as a dodgy lead or spark plug, rotor arm, dizzy cap, or as major as a mechanical engine problem.

But even someone with a basic ability should be able to perform some sort of diagnosis using common sense to go through things.

And it is a total waste of time worrying about the carb when there is a missfire. Any wonder it's using a lot of fuel !!

That's a bit like the brakes are seized on and the car is using a lot of fuel, so you try and tune the carb to remedy that.

C'mon, use a little bit of common sense.
