cam timing piper 285t2 help please gents
Hi fellas,
I need some advice on timing a piper 285t2 cam in my s2 erst
i had a kent cvh35 running a kent adjustable vernier.
a friend gave me a piper 285t2 he removed from his rs,only done about 2000 miles and looks like new.
i swapped the cams and put in new lifters.
ive left the adjustable vernier where it was set for the kent cam, thinking they would have similar profiles.
the car is running ok but seems a little hesitant sometimes and sounds really cammy.
i ran it in as you would a new cam, keeping it at 3000rpm for 15 minutes.
The current setting on the vernier is a couple of notches retarded.
As i dont have any degree charts or anything with the cam,is there a base setting that i should set the vernier too??
is slightly retarded about right??
appreciate it needs setting up properly but might go full zetec soon and begrudge paying for a full set up when im hardly gonna use it after this month.
below is a pic of the vernier where it is now,and a pic of the piper specification, but i dont understand th timing figures they give.
timing says 17-65 69-21.
so what im hoping,is that somebody has the same cam and vernier, and they can show me where theres is set???????
any help appreciated guys
cheers
steve

I had this cam in mine and I ran standard timing and it was fine. TDC and 0 on the vernier. Obv it's not perfect but I never had an issue. Got a newman now and tbh its a much better profile. Jamie
