Put a spanner on the centre bolt on the tensioner pulley and turn it. It will be stiff mind!

maybe ,they said the same thing about the v6 type all that was needed was a 1/4 t bar put in the "special tool" square hole and just pull!

We made the special tool in the end as we couldnt get any thing else to fit, longish flat bar with a square bit welded on to it(like the end off an old extension for a ratchet) does the job a treat, if your stuck can post some pics up but wont be till later on.

that sounds just like the v6 type ,the hole is low down on the arm had to go in from the wheel arch on mine to get the right leverage

I can lend you the tool if you want? Will need a deposit of Ł20 (Paypal) but I'll give it you all back when I get the tool back. PM me if interested.

the fan is electric, not driven by a belt. hope that helps

on a more useful note, tensioners these days seem stiff as they are hydraulically damped so you cannot just wang them open with brute force. a constant, steady force will open them easily
