we bought my dad a day at the rally school run by the Higgins brothers in wales. he got to go out in a mk2 with david higgins, under instruction, and then at the end of the day for a blast with david driving. wasnt cheap, and u really dont get that long behind the wheel, but worth it when the instructor is of that calibre

Go for one with a shite car, its normally an indication that they will let you drive it harder and you'll get longer in the seat.
Obvioulsy look into how much time you actually get to confirm that but as a rule of thumb its spot on IME.
Ive did a couple of these things about 10 years ago, we used to do the website for redletterdays and so I did some through that on the cheap, and they are REALLY good fun
There are some amazing ones over in ireland where you really do get a whole day of it, on tarmac and forest, but one of the mickey mouse jobs at silverstone or similar would be a great starting point to see if you like it.
When you actually cost up running and maintaining a trackday car these driving experiences are actually not too bad value IMHO!

I did one in Wales a few years back! Phil Prive Rallying School!
Full day compromising of side on techniques around a dirt ridden figure of 8 track! Your let loose on your own most of the time! Cars are BDA engine MK 2 Escorts and they are brilliant! You compete eith others for best lap times and drifting etc! You also get passenger ride in a rally escos at the end of the day which is amazing! Fuckin excellent day!

Drove a 3rd cossie, mk2 escort, 205 maxi and had a passenger ride in a scooby.
Cossie just span the rears and went sideways at no particlar pace - the claimed 400bhp was too much for me/that surface.
Mk2 was good fun and sounded great, but wasn't quick enough. I cant remember what it had under the bonnet though...
The maxi 205 went very well, and was very easy to drive - i flew round, and it was this that probably got me awarded 2nd place on the day.
Do it!
Tom
Scooby ride as unreal - the acceration on that wet gravel was untrue! I couldn't get over that bangs and crashes through the suspension - it was so bad i thought the wheels were going to come off at any moment. I even asked the guy (who was a grumpy prick) if it had been setup for this circuit, or whether it gets used on a combination of surfaces, and just left in this guise. His response was brief, and confirmed nothing...

thanks guys, bin reading up on it a lot, its something i wood love to do and the mrs has always said she wood like to see me do it.
out of a 3/4 hour session i belive you get about an hour driving on and off.
i no u get a passenger ride at the begginning or end, and i no u do a timed race to see who's quickest on the day.
i think its worth the money just to drive a car of that spec

We recently went to the Subaru Rally Experience at Haynes motor museum it was great fun, they use Impreza's converted to run RWD.
Its good value for what you get, lots of time in the car and they really encourage you to learn how to power slide, hold a drift etc.
Good value we did half day course at £160, discount for group bookings as well.
Located off the A303, it took us about an hour and 15 mins from M25/M3 junction (j12?) to their place near Yeovill.

Silverstone crap unless have lessons. Try london rally school. I live in brum and drive all round to get good place to go. Its all down to how long in the car rather than a day. I went silverstone yesterday for a premier drive experiance half hour that it. Try T1 in yorkshire but worth trip stay overnight that wht i did. you wont regret the trip

Rallycross, thanks for the recomendation.
Thats just up the road from me and the mrs and we both have some time off work coming up soon, might see if they have a course running on the days we are free.
Bargain at 160 for half a day too
