Default st170 in to a mk3 escort

hi guys as some of you may know i have a mk3 escort running a 1.1crossflow, im planning to take the car off the road next year and want to up the power by quite a lot.
im thinking along the line's of fitting a st170 engine on bike carbs and running a aftermarket ecu, or just buying a mk5 1.8 zetec and using parts from that to use on my mk3.

could someone give me a rough giude on what parts i'd need for the st170 converision please as i'd prefeer that rather than the mk5 1.8.

cheers dai

Bike bodies might be a better idea?

I mean bike throttle bodies rather than bike carbs.

They have an injector in them which is ECU controlled, so when you fit aftermarket to do the ignition timing, you could get it to control the fuelling as well.

thanks mark but i dont have any where to put it atm.

bike bodies sounds better, fuel inj is much eaiser for me.
main things i need to know is do i need to change the sump, oil filter for a shorter one, and other thing like i would need for the 2.0 zetec

from my experience the ST170 is significantly trickier to install than a normal Zetec. We did the conversion on a Mk6 Escort and it was a bugger. Yes you will need the sump from a Zetec Escort or Fiesta to transfer onto the Duratec unit. Good news is it will bolt straight up

imho you would do best dropping the 2 litre Zetec in and then fitting the throttle bodies off a bike as per Chips comments.

The 1.8 is at best limp wristed, the 130PS version doesn't actually make the claimed figure typically being far nearer the 120bhp mark. Oddly the 2 litre conversion is often cheaper to insure than the 1.8 as it's from a reps Mondeo rather than a sporty(ish) hatch back

What about st170 engine complete with 6 speed box, cable shift and proper shafts.
Does it use fly by wire throttle?jwhat extra does the ecu need from the actual car loom to run?is it worth wiring the ford ecu and loom up or buying an aftermarket loom/ecu and doing it that way?

~nomad~ on here has broken a few ST170's and I'm sure (but not 100%) that stripping the loom out of the doner car is a total pig
