Racing Puma parts/spares..
Friend of mine has the chance to buy a non running FRP, I was just wondering how easy it is to get parts for these?
Have no more info than the above so no idea whats wrong!
Things like rebuilding the engine is no problem as I imagine being a Zetec all the bearings, rings, gaskets etc. are readily available, I was thinking more along the lines of things specific to the FRP's.
Cheers!

On the engine side, the most common cause of failure is the big end bearings failing due to lack of oil. When this happens the bores will score and that'll be the end of that as they're Nikasil lined only on the 1.7 in the Zetec family. Albino rocking horse poo to get a short engine new for the 1.7.
As above - expect the 909 tax to be extreme with these. Alan at PumaBuild did buy a lot of the remaining spares from Ford, but you ain't going to get them at a bargain price.
Body panels will cost ŁŁŁ. An accident on the front or rear bumper with or without a wing can write the car off with parts, fitting and painting costs through insurance.
But then you can be lucky with parts : Some trader was selling the 4 off shocks with springs at Ford Fair yesterday for Ł200 new.

is it no 236 by any chance??
You need to diagnose the problem but from the description the engine has suffered oil starvation.
Its had a bit of money spent on it as well.
And the engine is a Zetec SE NOT the zetec E or R.
so the engine is not so easily rebuilt as your thinking. Many of the bearings and parts are available through swindon racing engines or shawspeed who both do lots of work on the zetec SE.
However its probably cheaper to get a second hand unit out of any 1.7 puma and swap it over.
Remember to swap over the cams and have them properly set up as well as the obvious visually different parts like cam cover, inlet and exhaust manifolds etc.
If you do the work yourself shouldnt be too expensive.

oh and once its fixed, go on track days and wind up expensive cossie owners as you push them round the corners As FWD fords go the handling is awesome and will make lots more expensive cars look shit on tight twisty circuits and bends. Its just not got that much straight line speed so the expensive toys will generally pull away on the straights, but youll be able to carry more speed through corners and brake harder than anything without AP 6 pots or similar.

Thanks for all your input!
Warren I have no idea what number it is mate or whats wrong, friend of mine just asked what I knew about them so thought I'd put a post up as I now sweet FA! lol
Sounds like we really need to know what's actually wrong with it before making a decision.
