Default Anyone know much about corsa C's?

As title, anyone know much about em? My sister wants one for her next car (a 1.2 or 1.4), are they reliable? Any issues with them? Don't really know much about them cause I'm a ford lover.

Cheers people

Greg.

jumping timng chain is common on these, coil packs common.
gearbox mounts, heater matrix, wishbones. all parts are cheap but i would have the 4 cylinder over the 3 anyday but all cars have faults
here try this

Hi mate, My missus has had one for 4 years. Its a 2003 1.2 sxi and she has had no bother at all. Bought it with 52k and it now has nearly 90. Never missed a beat.

I personally can't stand them, if I was going to buy that sort of car I would be looking along the lines of the Honda Jazz.

Both the cars you are looking at are 4 cylinder, the only 3 cylinder model is the 1L.

The engines always seem terrible, tappety to be specific, this is something I have noticed on alot of them, it seems reliablilty is not there strongest point either!

they also as well as the faults listed above have a habit of melting pistons, plus they still rot badly, not as bad as older corsas but still bad enough
i work on many being a full time mechanic and wouldnt have one given to me

Mines been in the family since new (2001 Y) it's a 1.2 sxi, done 44K now and other than rear springs (comon) gear linkage at 42K (comon) track rod ends, front brakes and replaced shitty plastic CV gators and a couple of sets of tyres it's been minted! can't fault it whatesoever. DONT take it to vauxhall for a start, service it yourself. I do believe poor servicing and shite oil is the cause of the timing chains jumping because of worn guides...theres a small oil feed in between the camshafts that lubes the chain and if you dont service it when it sais it blocks up and the chain doesnt get lubed properly causing the guides to wear.

Just mot'd mine this week and the MOT tester said "it's a minter" lol

We have several at work. Total shit! Nasty to be in, nasty to drive and constantly in and out of the dealer. We've had problems with timing belt/chain, alternators, electric window runners causing window to twist in frame, clunking from suspension.

Honestly I would rather walk than suffer the misfortune of driving one again.

My sister had a 52 reg 1.2 sxi a few years back. Things were always going wrong with it, used to have total electric failure on random occasions, sometimes when on motorways etc which wasn't nice!

She fucked it off and bought a 1.4 base model 306 and said it was far better than the corsa

Snapping springs, oil pressure switches dying, coilpacks, alternators dying, timing chains skipping, gear linkages failing are the common things I see in work. centre exhausts seem to rot quickly too I sell loads of them!
There is a current recall on 55 plate onwards for the cams snapping, and my mother in laws 56 plate has more rust than my 1984 escort cabby.
Great other than that

I over-revved a 1.2 so violently that it ran like a Subaru, then after a while struggled to run at all.

But I'm sure the same would have happened to any other car if you'd gone from the limiter in 3rd, snatched 2nd and lifted the clutch... and to be honest, I thought the little Corsa handled reasonably well, in a comedy hire car type of way.

Cheers,
Grant

Ive had 2, a 1.2 sxi+ and a 1.4 SRi. Think the faults are being over-exaggerated a little on this thread

They are good cars if looked after, the same as any other car. The difference being if something does go wrong its mega cheap to fix! They are mega cheap to service, insure, tax and to run in general.

Best one to get would be a 1.4 Sri. Better specced than an SXi and still only group 5 insurance.

Ive just sold my Corsa VXR and Im buying a house now so looking for a cheap car and Ill be buying another SRi.

The camshaft snapping rework is due to the cam bearing bolts coming loose, also look out for a knocking noise that sound like a drop link on the front which will be either the drop link which are common faults but will probably be a bush in the n/s of the steering rack, which are prone to wear. oil pressure switches usually piss out oil too.

Just to add to this, I said we use Vauxhall for our vehicles at work. Well it would seem that we won't be much longer. The cars have been so fucking awful we are terminating our contract with them.
