the price reflects the fact i dont want to sell it

and yes it is the UNLUCKIEST car i have ever owned. EVERYTHING has broken on it

altho TBH that now makes it an almost new car, the DVLA would probbaly give me a new registration

Stu, I was having a play on sunday night in the 530d, bearing in mind it has no LSD, it handles pretty well for a big old boat (bearing in mind it is auto as well!)

This put the silly idea in my head of maybe getting an M5, but... would you A) Get the 530d tuned up to 290Bhp, fit an lsd, or, B) sell up and get an M5? ..... I have really fallen for the charms of the E39 5, considering I didn't really like it when I bought it, it has proven to be a great car so far. My only real concerns would be the fuel economy halving

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2945339.htm

I know this one thats for sale. It's not a great ad for info but it's actually owned by an ex BMW dealer mechanic who now works at a BM specialist place.

It sounds fantastic with that exhaust on!!

Parts arent cheap but they are a feckin awesome car mate. I think genuine discs and pads were about £650 all round if I remember. A set of good tyres is knockin on £1k. And if the anger management light comes on it then start to worry

I find myself looking at E60 M5's more and more these days, which could get expensive

good point... we won a car on the dealers auction of sytner yesterday and was just below the reserve and the guy refused to let it go for £100 less..even though if was a £19k 6 Series...I think the guy must have had a price in mind and wont let it go for less..but you never know

It said no reserve, so I'm sure it would have sold. If the owner genuinely wanted more it's hardly a hardship to put a reserve on it or set the starting bid higher.

For round town general mooching around yes, undoubtably, the V10 engine isnt as usable, it sounds rough and it uses significantly more fuel.

However... open it up, and its a different ball game!

I mistaked my friends for a diesel when he was sat outside my house in it. Felt a bit silly, but it did sound like one.

This is my E39 M5, owned it for just over 2yrs,great cars.
Its August edition of BMW Car Magazine, the assistant editor isn't to keen on the E60 M5 either, they were comparing an E39 M5 with the new F10 550i.

I think you would struggle to buy a nice M5 for 5-7k, their are lots about for that money but they are expensive on bits like discs, tyres, mafs, suspension etc, so it doesn't pay to buy a cheap one. Saying that you will always get the odd bargain, a guy from the UK on the M5board just traded in his carbon black M5 with 176k on the clock for £2750 !

Cheers Simon.

The V10 M5 is a fantastic car but is let down by the gearbox at slow speeds making it a pain to drive. The fuel consumption is utter bollocks too. I have never liked the shape of the E39 so i cant comment on them. I need to get a second car now as the merc and m5 are gone and these are not even in my eye! I think a nice jag xjr circa 2004 all ally version tickles my ring piece.
