Default Golf GTTDi's ?

Any views or opinions on these? Ive never owned a VW before but theres an X reg golf gti tdi up the road with 6 months tax n test going for £1500, its the 130 bhp 6 speed model in a nice blue colour, audi rims (need refurbing) and tints. Its done 155,000 though with some history, recent cambelt change with reicept.

Is the mileage a worry or will it be ok? Just wanted to know what to look out for i need a runabout as the brakes have gone on my current runabout and im not driving it the state its in and ive been lent some money by a good friend but don't want to buy another car thats going to be a issue! drives nice, pulls well, just the mileage puts me off? Its usually that sort of mileage when rust sets in and things start to fall apart one after the other

Thanks

Engines are bullet proof if serviced correctly. My old man has the 1.9 TDi 130 lump in his passat at it's done 288k now with absolutely no problems. He's had it from new and has never let him down. Everything is original bar the alternator and brake light switch!

Wouldnt the clutch soon let go, turbo etc if you re mapped it? the sudden change in power/torque would surely blow the cobwebs aswell as the last legs off tired parts if the cars done 150k plus?

But it would cost a fair few hundred for the remap then the clutch and the risk of other failings? is the re map really worth it?

Check the engine code. Doubt it will be a proper 130bhp one on a X reg....

130 engine code is ASZ.

my ibiza has been remapped for 20,000 miles now. On 112k now no problems with clutch which is still original and engine is fresh as a daisy!

it sure is!!
i have a 130 spec bora tdi remapped to 170bhp, pulls like feck, taken 8 months of daily abuse for the clutch to fully let go on a standard one.
will be fitting solid flywheel and uprated clutch this week, not even that expensive really, will be cheaper in the future as i wont be replacing flywheel again.
bloody good engines, mines on 134k, still solid.
alternator clutch is playing up a bit now though, just knocks a little from time to time, but you can barely hear it over the engines normal sounds.

Mines chipped on a 115pd - mpg isn't as good as what some say, i get 40mpg round town and up to 50 on long trips

I've got 132k on mine and runs fine - has a slight pinking noise when it comes on boost which i'm not sure if it's the cam or something else, has done it for ages and still pulls well

Mine cost me £4k 18 month ago but if you see the pics in my garage it's slightly modified

The 150s can give clutch issues when remapped, but the lower models are generally ok unless the clutch is pretty worn out already.

Great engines, I had 200K on my A4 when I got rid of it and it still ran sweet as a nut.
