RSTbertS1, Yep I believe this is correct, Labour have abolished tax exempt, but i believe those who were already tax exempt at the point it changed will be ok.

its for pre 1973 registered cars, but if you can prove the car was built before 1973 you can still claim tax free.

'73 eh? Hmmm, sounds promising. What is it? Don't suppose it's got a live axle by any chance? Gotta be more fun than my semi-old shed, all intergalactic acceleration and torque steer
BTW, the last time I checked, all pre December '73 cars were tax exempt. Don't think it's changed, but you never know. After all, the present government seem to take great pleasure in shafting the motorist. And the poorer the motorist, the harder the shafting.

But it would be worth checking with the manufacturer to get the exact build date...

if its before 1973 and you get a letter from them as proof your laughing!

The rule is that the car has to be MANUFACTURED before 1/1/73 regardless of when it was first registered. If you can prove that the car was made before 1/1/73 you can have the taxation class changed from PLG to Historic vehicle which is tax exempt. It was originally 25 years but labour scrapped that.

what car is it?

there are lots of people that know what means what. if you have an Mk1 Escort, get on the AVO owners club and post up your chassis number. they helped me out.

i don't think you'll be in luck with a car registered in may, unless its a base model shitter in tawny bronze that no fucker wanted

MK 1, TOP mate!
If it is tax free, Grp.4 it and use it as a daily driver
That should put it up the f*ckers
There's not nearly enough cars on the road getting off of their tax by now as there should be.
Hope yours does mate.
All the best

I used to have a 1975 1600 Ghia MKII which turned 25 just after they changed the 25 year ruling B*stards! I'd been waiting to use it for ages aswell. Life realy is like trying to ice skate up hill isn't it.
When i've got the dough, i'm going to buy a 1300E or a Mexico and use it daily with no tax - HA! so there HM Gov.
