Default exhaust de-cat and mot'ing

hi folks, my bro wants to swap his exhaust on his st from a standard one to an aftermarket one but it doesnt have a cat in it. Will this effect the emisions for the mot test and will it require a new set up? No other mods just exhaust? Cheers luke

chances are it will fail the emmisions. some cars don't but 90% do so he'll either have to find a friendly garage come mot time or stick the old cat back on.

tell him NOT to bin it!

It won't fail because it doesn't have a cat, it will however fail if it doesn't get through the emissions test. It isn't unknown that cars will go through without the cat, but it's unlikely. It could be worth taking it to an MOT centre just to see what the emissions are before the test is due to give you some time to get a cat sorted.

Have heard a bottle of Jack Daniels on the passenger seat when taking it for MOT helps lower the emissions though!
