What's with this slamming a car thing?
A couple of forumns I use have some nice cars and all the lads seem to want to do is slam it as low as possible? Why take something as fun to drive as a 106 GTi, spend cash on tuning it to then only totally fuck it up by lowering it so it can't negotiate a cats eye?
Maybe I'm getting old

Quickest was to shag the rear axle is dropping it on the bumpstops.

Some people just think it looks cool. I can't see why you'd want to totally ruin the way a car drives for the sake of fashion. We all make compromises when modifying a car, make it a bit louder, fit wheels that are a bit big etc etc, but it is a bit extreme.
They're a funny breed.

its all part of the gay boy racer scene where they copy a "look" with no actual understanding of what they are doing to their cars. At best they think "touring cars are low, must be good for my 1.1 saxo" without realising anything about how to make their car handle.
its a sad fact that most of the "mods" seen in the boy racer scene are a copy or bastardisation of something seen in motorsport. Unfortunately the public now recognise such things and think its a CHAV mod on a racecar

Someone else shares my views!! I know what you mean, I'm also a member of a couple of other forums and all the talk is about "stance". It sucks! I want to be able to drive my car proplery (and that doesn't mean having to crawl over anything bigger than a ciggarate paper) I'm all for lowering a car to get rid of the 4x4 look, but there is a line, I'm 20 years of age and I don't think I'm old just yet so no your not alone. Concentrate on making the thing go like stink and handle proplery I say.

From the other side of the fence, I like a quick car that handles well, and when I modify a quick car I try to make sure it handles well. However, when I have a slow as fuck car I like to try and make it look as good as possible, for me that involves a good slamming lol.

Saxo's ??
Over here it's every damn car !!
Audi's, Golfs, Passats, Toledo's, anything French, Mercs etc etc
How these cars arent taken off the road as extremely dangerous is beyond me. Although it is hilarious watching them try and drive down relatively smooth roads and them bouncing about like crazy inside as there is no suspension. But not as funny as when their shock mounts etc get ripped off the chassis

Nothing worse than wheels scuffing on arches too, how can you drive fast with the car doing that? and escort turbo exhausts scraping the ground, both really spoil the drive IMO

I like the Pug scene and all the Northern Ireland boys slam the backs of their 306's, so much that you can't see half the back wheel?
Then they turn up the fueling to buggery so the car blows out clouds of black smoke
Makes no sense to me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOmky...eature=related
They seem to think buy having clouds of black smoke comming out the back end makes them fast
My 406 TD was tuned abit and it smoked less than it did standard!
35-40mm drop is pleanty on most cars!

If I had a slow car, which I wouldn't bother driving hard in any way, shape or form... then I'd likely leave it alone. ....however if I did decide to modify it, then I'd have it lower than I would normally have and fit a big set of wheels too.
Performance cars that I've had, unless they're already on coilovers, usually get a set of eibach springs, thicker roll bars, uprated bushes and a proper geometry set up... because the roads near me are absolutely shite and most of my 'fun' driving is done on twisty hillside/country roads which are way more fun and easier to exploit in a car with some ground clearance and suspension travel. They would tear a slammed car to pieces very quickly.
Cheers,
Grant

Rat look is a whole different thread . Why would you deliberately want to drive around in a car that just makes you look like a pauper and the sort of pikey cunt that puts a fivers worth of petrol in at a time

You're all just old farts. I appreciate performance enhancing suspension, but slammed cars are cool. Albeit not Saxo's and things of equal shitness, but some cars look ace when rolling in the weeds.

well after i warned him god knows how many times about the car being too low and it will bounce over the hedge, well it did , slid down the road t on its roof hitting another car in the process,
no one hurt thank god, but someone so easily could have been killed,
he has now wised up

Rat look used to be cool, when the rat cars were real traditional rat cars, not vw's with rusty bonnets. A proper rat car is one that is usually pretty old, which, how should I say, aged naturally, like those hot rods from calafornia with sun dried and burnt paint, which have very powerful engines and can embarass most things in a drag race. Thats a rat look car, not a mk5 golf with a rusty bonnet and roof rack.

I used to have a Orion 1.6i Ghia which already had lowering springs and i got a mate to chop two coils off so it was riding on bumpstops - was proper low and my mates nick named it the "lo-rider"
I wasnt into really speeding around corners so for me it was purely a looks thing
The E36 I have at the moment is on coilovers at the back and they are wound right down and it hasnt affected the handling noticeably.

Real rat cars are cool because you can see that despite the shitty bodywork, the effort usually went on under the hood... hence it used to be common in the yank hot rod scene before the idea came over here. No one made those cars look rat, thats just how they came with 40 years of weathering and natural patina.
Really??? when sprogs like you were toddlers most of us were just getting into the car scene and most of us didnt feel the need to act like fucking bellends and ruin our cars with the same shit mods that are done today.
Its just a significant minority of bellends as per usual....

Part of the reason I left FFOC was because of all the chavvy fuckwits coming into the club asking the same old questions.
I want to drop my far as low as possible and I've seen these cheap coilovers on eBay. Anyone used them before?
My first response was always the same - why the fuck do you want to lower your car as far as possible? It fuck up the handling, it demolishes the suspension bushes and linking parts and halves the life of your tyres due to the silly cambers produced. And that's before you get started on buying cheap shit coilovers from eBay.
Fucking losers.

I'm sorry, if it's interpretted as showing off, so be it. I say this is as functionally low as performance allows....all the rest are, in my words, punk kids showing off and I would absolutely LOVE to meet them on a twisty road.

I like the slammed look. I've gone to low with my red Orion but I just put up with it. Built it for a laugh and it wouldn't look the same riding high.
My other orion's on coilovers and drives lovely not as slammed.
