i don't even know where to begin to look to fix this issue, basically, on my FRST the indicators no longer cancel themself once you turn the wheel.... is it an electrical issue or is it something more simple like wearing of something in the column?

it will prob be the plastic mech inside , just pop to a local scrappy and get another stalk, very easy to change matey

 

It's an entirely mechanical affair, theres a little arm that extends when the switch is actuated, there is then a cam that turns with the steering wheel which knocks sprung loaded lever in which untimately returns the stalk. More than likely a part of it has just worn, so as said easiest option is just to change it.

Check the self cancel cam and the stalk. Can only be two things.

 

as above, if you have anyone withthe same car try testing theirs, takes two minutes to swap, if it does the job then get down the scrappy.

remove steering wheel
you will see the little plastic ring with a knob on the end of it
there is a corresponding little knob sticking out of the indicator assembly
one of these has snapped off
if is the one on the steering column it's easy to replace, if it's the one on the arm it needs a new arm
