Ap water cooled front brakes question
Right I'm running water cooled ap front brakes on my space frame mk2 escort, these where on the car when I brought it but the water cooling was not used.any people use water cooled brakes on there cars? How is the water side piped in?do you go into the cars normal radiator? Or use a separate radiator, pump, header tank etc.thanks inadvance guys

Don't water cooled brakes just spray a mist onto the brakes, so it's not a closed system with a radiator like engine cooling. I've always assumed it will just be a reservoir and a pump. Hands up though, I do know nothing about these set ups so could be completey wrong. It's just what I assumed from watching truck racing on the telly a few years back.

On the group a cars they used a headlamp washer pump that was activated via the brake light switch so the spray activated every time you press the brake,
This was not a closed system, just fed from a water tank on the grp a cars and from the iss tank on the wr cars (if they run wc)
The Grp a manual states:
"Water cooling is recommended for the front brake calipers on tarmac and rear brake calipers on gravel"
"The caliper pipes are made from steel 'bundy' tube with the end brazed and a small spray hole drilled"
Hope that helps you a bit,
Thanks

I used to run some on a Manta400 rally car, It was a closed loop system, the pump(bespoke & expensive) was switched from inside the car and only utilised when conditions required. To help keep the costs down we used a rad from a Yamaha DT175 enduro type bike, which came from a bike breakers.

How did you run a closed loop system? Unless all it did was to cool the calipers?
If it was like truck racing water cooler brakes then as said above, its just a mist for the discs to cool.

The calipers pictured in that thread are the same as the ones I ran.
