For real power there more jap cars out there,fords can be tuned for big power but seems the jap stuff seems to be stronger i.e the supra and skylines.

But one thing qulaity top end high power cars cost real money be them jap or ford

oh ermmm i was thinking cheap and cheerful. best i would have is a skyliner and if a ford id have a proper mental specced escort cossie like martin hadlands. id still keep my rs turbo though for ten years later

ford is straight forward and simple. japs are hard to work on .. fords are usuall easy fixes. to me id say over all ford is better for power than a average jap. for example scoobys and evos have a different power delivery.. id have a yb cossie engine for power and the way the power comes in and stays in,over the scoobies or evos where power comes in early but dies out too quick .

Not sure about that my Evo pretty simple to work on. Suburu even easier. Going by what you have written you never been in a Evo or Scooby or worked on them.
Have mates with cossies,Scooby's, Skyline Gtr's and to be honest I would'nt say any of them are perfect IMO.

Think it's all the recent big power Jap threads that have raised the issue as it is a Ford site. Anything can make good power if you throw enough money at it.

i have sat in a few scoobies and a evo 3. there were all just average cars though power wise. the power came in quick but it died out whereas the cossies i sat in pinned you in ur seat all the way throught the rev range.i sat in a 580bhp skyline that was MENTAL was stupid fast WHEN it came on boost.i havent worked on any jap my self but i hang around with boys who do...my mate changed a rocker cover gasket on his scooby and was harder than my rs turbo. plus i hear to change like plugs etc on a scooby takes the piss compared to a cossie or rs turbo. my bro had a scooby p1 . the bottom end shat it self and the gearbox went twice in just 8months.. all comes down to abuse and the way you drive ..evos are easier than scoobys though i suppose.

you really do talk shit , ive not wanted to comment on your threads as they are utter crap but this has got to the most stupid thing youve ever come out with , the evo engine is by far the best 4 pot production engine out there to tune and if youve ever looked at an evo cylinder head you would understand why , it makes a cnc ported zetec head look very small indeed as the standard port are hugh. and if the evo you went in didnt stay on power then it was built and specced wrong or they probably know as much about tuning an engine as you do .

im on about a early evo 3 mate. the car came on boost quick but died out. it felt like once he launched off then he just changed gears because it roun outa puff. cossies stay in. the evo engine is good and reliable but when there around 330bhp then there better. if evos engine are so good then why do they blow up if they aint forged. i seen enough evos engine shit them selves. how come cossies engines take 400bhp but when a evo 6 tryed 400bhp it blew up at pj motorsport . and a few weeks later i saw a evo 5 make 403bhp and that only lasted 2 days till it shit itself .

iam sure most cossie owners would choose to run forged pistons in the engine now for 400+bhp for reliability , and thats probably the size of the turbo used on the engine thats why it runs out of puff , and i think that says alot about the tuner if youve seen 2 blow up after coming from the garage.

B204/B234 engine = 200 quid
Turbo and manifold = 1000 quid
Injectors = 200 quid
Decent intercooler = 400 quid
You can remap the standard management yourself with free software

Under 2 grand you have over 500bhp

Cant think of much japaenese or ford wise that compares really on the same budget from a 4 pot!

Hopefully on wednesday I should be heading that way myself, although for now going to keep the boost down as the engine I am using is a total unknown one I bought off ebay, if I see 400bhp+ though I will be happy, especially as I spent far less than that as im using secondhand parts.

Will let you know how I get on! MOT is saturday, then will be taxing it on monday if it passes and mapping it on monday and tuesday then sticking it on a set of dyno dynamics on wednesday and taking it to the pod on friday, busy week
