I think it is down to the pumps, some like it, some dont. For the sake of 20 litres and a saving of less than 10 quid, I wouldn't risk it personally! If it was an old snotter that you didn't care about and you had a considerable quantity of oil, then I would do it!

i think it also has something to do with the injection system, for example is it common rail injection?
There was a company on the estate who sold bio diesel (chip fat) for 70p a ltr (only for heatres though lol) a mate had it in his vivaro, never again he said. mixed it 50/50 and it took 3 fuel filters out, thats after he even stopped using it!!! the van stank and dropped a bit in power, but the hasstle he had with it was too much.
But I have heard older vans run better on it, but its something ive not seen with my own eyes and I wouldnt try it myself personally.
But good luck and post up all the details about your results mate, i would be very interested as fuel is killing me at the mo, £1.35.9 round here at the mo :-(

the neat veg oil was £1.49 in the gas station i was in today it will run in a old smiley front transit no problems and i know a few people running it in say older toyotas and vauxhalls and peugeots with mechanical diesel pumps no problem. I do know someone who bought a 03 mondeo tdci that had been run on central heating fuel and lets just say its fucked and going to cost twice as much as its worth to fix haha

lol marv,
that fella was a bit of a charcter, I was going to try some off him but decided it against it. My berlingo is the old xud engine with mech pump (non solenoid) so that would run fine according to the hear say so im proper interested in how the op gets on

netto was 89p a few weeks back, someone i know runs that good shit neat and the motor runs well infact they had a dti astra on a 52 reg 3 yrs ago that ran mazola for 15000 miles no problems and then sold it to someone they know and its still running no problem so from my knowledge it runs great if new in certain engines. Its the common rail fuckers that don't like it so stick with older mechanical pumps

One of my friends uses old veg oil to make biodiesel in his own plant in the garden and he refused to pay over 50p a litre as by the time you factor into processing it, it just isnt worth the time and effort to save that amount of money. He got a lot of his oil for free, although he had to get a operators license and show adequate insurance before any bigger/chain restaurants would give him oil as a lot of places needed the paper trail.

I didn't buy diesel for nearly 8 months, mk2 Mondeo td. Just pour it straight in, will run perfectly on the old mechanical systems. DO NOT run any high pressure diesel on veg, it will kill it very quickly due to tight pump tolerences needing the lube from the diesel.
When it gets cold, just run 1/4 mix of diesel to stop it being too thick. If you can be arsed filtering old oil, you can almost run your car for free.
