you can use a t5 box with a bell housing to the V8 engine - but be prepared to pay a lot of money for that bell housing

I would recomend the 302 or 351 windsor ford V8. They are quite narrow for an 8, easy to rebuild and if you can get a late Mustang 5.0, they come with forged pistons and lots of other handy design features.

Chevy 350's are easy to get hold of and speed parts are plentiful and very cheap.

Either can make 500hp with minimal work.

For a manual box on the fords you can use a mustang T5 bell housing, cossie T5, mustang pressure plate and range rover centerplate.

Rover V8's are cheap to buy, expensive to modify. All alloy construction makes them about as heavy as a pinto though.

If you want something 'unusual' I've got a 383 chrysler in need of rebuild and a 454 chevy in the works.

build a small block ford to a 331ci with a 650 carb on and a nitrous plate kit, with the right heads and cam you'll see 600hp with the gas and still very drivablt, also run a tremmec box and will bolt straight on the back of the block and quite easy to fit in the car, all you have to do then is get it to move without wheel spin as the touque will be aroun 720ftlbs with the gas on!! at 3500rpm.

MattJ- The ford 302 Windsor (ie 5.0) fits direct under the sierra bonnet no bother.

Bashing a big rootes blower on it will make it stick thru the bonnet tho, and make you look like a total chopper

if you wanted more than n/a power and wanted a more permanent power adder than gas, id turbo the fucker---

www.turbomustangs.com/forum

if idve realised what they do and how they do it years ago idve never bothered with a cossie or a skyline, and right now id be owning the car idve probly owned for 5yrs+, a thundersaloon 3dr bodyshell with a silly power dart blocked turbo V8 in it...

i'm very interested in gong this route myself, but some part of me thinks that going v8 is "cheating" lol

Its not cheating, its called not being so fucking stupid to tune lesser engines like YBs and 24V's.

Performance per pound, nowt else.

If only i learnt years ago...

yeah but steve, v8 is TOO easy... power shouldnt be that cheap, and tha driveable! it just goes against everything ive ever known ever also, remmber that dragrace in 2 Fast 2 Furious?

seriously tho, what are the cons of going V8? apart from the fuel consumption? and infact how bad are they really, say one running on a big old carb or one running on proper EFi. looking at about the 300-500bhp mark on a nice cheapish standardish engine...

fuck Efi, no neeeed, even on silly power turbo ones.

said this before, stock 302 for about 400quid for a good one, suitable carb n inlet (carb needs adapting to run boost pressure), decent pump n regulator, and some bodge job turbo conversion idealy using 2 turbos with .63 housings (so T34 is best) as smaller housings choke the V8 at high revs as they are so big.
500bhp easy, no lag, cost feck all, last for ever, and so on...

go read the forums on the link i posted, its a TOTALLY new world compared to Ybs and RBs tho, takes a lot of learning! Ive been on there for about 6months and still learning a lot, VERY technical

main thing you learn is awesome power delivery, silly cheap, silly power, stupidly reliable, crazy performance, and that you shoul have never of bothered with other engines when the V8 fits

with a bone stock 302 with a cam carb and intake change you'll see 300hp very cheap!!! I think for around £3500 we could supply a 350hp crate motor BRAND new!! although as steve has said old ones can be picked up cheap, I have a stock one that I'm using the block from which i paid 100notes for, I'm planning fittin a 450hp small block into my shell as its built for the power and the torque will compliment how the rear end works then I shall sell it complete.

Puting a v8 in a saph isnt hard or difficult, but to do right, isnt cheap
450-500 bhp is easy out of a normally aspirated small block Ford/Chevy
take your pick, but then you will also need all the drive train to go with it,
Tremec box, new prop, diff, driveshafts, add it all up, and even using
second hand parts its not a cheap conversion. Then when youve got all the
bits you need, you need to find someone to put it all together, so the end
result is a good package. This is the hardest part of all imo, and i was very
lucky to have the people that done mine, for without them it wouldnt have
turned out nowhere near as well as it has, if at all.
Before you start id recomend you sit down and plan it all out, and cost it,
then double it , its all the small bits that realy add up. but if you do it the
kind of grunt you end up with, in any gear, any speed, has to be experianced to be believed, good luck, hope you do it.

Magnum engineering (formally know as Auto Power Services) used to do a Rover V8 conversion

I used an APS kit when I stuck a V8 in my Sierra 3 door.
