not sure of the torque figure of the 2.8 but it's slightly less than the 2.9 which is 172 lbs/ft and peaks just below 3k, so they're grunty old motors just not high revvers!!

You'll be lucky to get a standard XR4i 2.8i that actually puts out 150, i've had a couple of standard ones in the past, one was 143bhp on the RRoad & the other was 130 odd.

they're old motors now and suffer alot from VSR, especially with the lack of proper leaded now. that and RR figures are almost always gash however XR4i do produce low figures on RR's i have to say when compared to the 2.9 with isnt much different really.

yes and no, good 'un well setup used for something other than picking up the shopping and cover a few miles every day can see you a good 300+ to a tank however it depends alot on condition, and are fewer and far between these days.
but yeah the 24v cossie granada lump is better on mileage than the 12v's

A friend of mine has 2 XR4i's both A plate ones, he has transplanted a cossie yb turbo lump in one & the other has a 24v cossie v6 lump, the 24v lump is very impressive it feels so much more torquey that the old 12v 2.8i, only prob is he still uses the type 9 gearbox & has been through a couple of boxes.

T9's 5 speeders are ok, but they really dont like much above 200bhp. best option would be to use a RWD mt75 and a 3.3:1 diff, however getting a RWD mt75 box for the V6 isnt easily done. it's easier to get a DOHC RWD box and have someone swap the front casing over with one from a V6 4x4 box, but its greater expense.
24v are nice, I'm greater fan of the 12v myself as when blown they're loverly to drive
