Default had a disastrous first day of racing today(crash!!)** videos now uploaded**

Today was my first race of the season in the northern saloons with my xr4x4 now with cossie power.
well to say every thing that could go wrong did!!

day started with my getting up early and to get to croft about 20 mins from my house, got there ok and when taking the car off the trailer something didn't seem right with the car..
later I started it up to take it to scruitineering only to find it running on 3!!
after scruitineering I tried to find the fault and discovered not 2 plug was dead changed it and all was well

Into qualifying the car had an on boost missfire so struggled to get it too boost and on my 3rd lap someone dropped oil all around the track resulting in half the field going off I went sideways on the oil behind a caterham who also went off but he hit the tyre wall. Then a Metro 6R4 dropped it's coolent!!!
Ended up towards the back of the field for the race after having no confidence to push the car on the ice rink!! the guys at the front got there laps in before the ice rink was formed!

Fixed the missfire for the race with smaller plug gaps (25thou) and made a great start passing several cars on the first lap the car was flying!!! onto lap 2 and I was in a small bunch of cars when as I braked for tower and the car snaped sideways (on what looks like the oil from earlier looking at the video) I spun sideways into my m8 in his civic
I spun and somehow kept it off the barriers, petes civic lost half a wheel
we both coasted back to the pits where I found a dented wing, 2 doors bent bottom suspension arm and a smashed wheel

Stay with me it gets worse!!!!

I then borrowed my wifes mondeo TDCI to go and get some spare suspension arms from my unit when a few miles down the road a conrod exited the block!!!!
Rang the wife back at the circuit to give her the good news!! A call to the AA got me home

nighmare day, but both race cars will all been well be out tommorow
the wife on the other hand is walking to work

Just uploading the video of the crash now will post it asap

edit
here are the videos

Seems like you struggled to keep up and then when you gave it your best and got near the civic thats when it went wrong, car looked a bit of a handful to be honest

yes the car is a handfull but as for struggling to keep up?? what makes you think that? I pulled several car lengths on the other cars on the straights and had already passed IIRC 4 cars on the first lap! I was lining up to pass the civic on the run to Jim clarks. look carefull at the track on my side thats where all the oil went down and the chalk dust seems to end right where I lost it..

Yeah, i see i just wasnt sure whether you were trying to stay with your mate in the civic or not, you did well at first and got ahead then after that you stayed behind the civic and then when you did try pass him thats when it went tits like.. shame tho.. bigger older fords always seem a handful, my mk2 V6 is alright in a straight line but throw it into any corner or roundabout at speed and it squeals like a pig

I wasn't trying to pass the civic at that point I was making sure I was ahead of the green kit car thing that I passed on the run to that corner. In hindsight I should have tucked in behind the civic but that would have meant chopping the nose off the green car, also I had my rear view mirror full of a metro 6R4 at the time aswell!!

Driving and car handling looks good to me mate, just a crappy racing incident, glad your both ok and just metal and EGO's damaged.

The Mondeo is far worse news for you I am sure. (

quick update, managed to patch the car back together this morning ready for this afternoons race
started 20th in the 36 car grid had a great race no major issues and finished in 20th place the car really is quick in a striaght line it just suffers from crap brakes and suspension
roll on cadwell in 4 weeks where hopefully I will have completed some mods to the suspension/ brakes that will improve things

I like the fact that you instantly apologised to the other driver, not everyone would and I respect that. Hopefully you both sort your cars out soon and there's no hard feelings

another view of the first 2 laps, this time from simons integra
I started on the grid right behind him, shows just how quick it is off the line and in a straight line, also my choice to have low lag pays off as it's straight on the power exiting the corners but it does show how I struggle in the corners particularly in sunny

That little Civic is severely impressive... and your car looks to be going a lot quicker than previously Steve, top work fella.
