Hey what do you thinly xr2i s because Im thinking of purchasing one and using it as a daily till i have my mk3 capri back then prepping it and moding it for

i happen to think for 500 quid they make a great base for a project and cheap racing. But they understeer, have flimsy shells and the CVH in N/A form is not great value to tune.

So what that they may be slow and not have xxxbhp big fat turbo and look at my piss poor cambered vetec yo! compared to todays standards but it was always special driving one about as there are hardly any on the roads nowadays. Only gripe i found was the insurance group.
Considering another one or an xr2 late this year or next.

Crx vtec was made in exactly the same year as a xr2i had 50bhp more double wishbne suspension and the motors would do 200k plus miles with no problems at all. Infact i think i'd rather have any other small car of the same sort from any other manufacturer, corsa gsi, swift gti so on so on
Just highlights how wank they actually are really doesnt it

they rot like fuck but if its clean a good shock set will get it riding better and you can zetec or frst easy as pie
they are cheap but worth looking at a frst as they may be better conition with all teh toys already
i dont mind a 2i, they were the shed of choice for many years and dont really go wrong

if you can find a non rust bucket, that's in reasonable nic and not on the HPI register, they have the reputation of being thrashed and crashed or stolen and crashed, one or two on ebay recently that need a bit of work

Im hopefully looking at a grey one that's been used as a daily on by a member on here any ways the cvh will be lost and replaced with something specal but Im keeping quite so it's different to other ones out there. All i kinda want at the mo from it is a good run around that's a bit of a laugh to drive

bought one a few years back for 300 notes taxed n tested, used to chuck oil out the breather so i routed it to a catch tank, when the tank was full i would pour it back in the oil filler cap, couldnt kill it for trying and had some fun with it along the way untill i scrapped it when the tax was up..was a 1.8 16v

well had mine 9 years, a 1.8 16v 92 lowered last two,years with the usuall 2l mods , maf cams ecu and my local mot guy guy puts it through as a 91 engine so i could de-cat it its pretty bulletproof 130k on it now, a light wee car and a whole load of fun still can get cheap spares off e-bay , body/chassis rust is a worry as it is getting on a bit so have a good look at the front of sillls/chassis/floor area for rust.

As for saying it's shit compared to the Corsa GSI, well, that's very interesting, but the Corsa GSI was the top of the range Corsa, the XR2i wasn't. The GSI was pitched against the RS1800 was it not? As the XR2i was just about at the end of it's 16v period when the GSI came out, and the RS1800 was the top of the range Fiesta.
Not the best car out there, but there's something about them I like.

The 1.6 ones were dreadfully slow and the 1.8 16 ones were still shit slow.
About 10 years ago when the lads were 18 19 and these cars were still relitivly new and affordable i dont know anyone that would even consider 1 as a car cause as i said above there wank.
A more constructed argument would be

AX GT? Erm, tin foil anyone? Good performer, but shocking build, and never really very popular.
To get distinctly better cars, you have to go up a notch, Polo G40, 205 1.9 GTI, R5 GTT etc, but they were comparible to the RS Turbo/RS1800, so doesn't really apply, that's a whole different arguement.

I'd guess alps is around my age as they were considered pretty wank cars back in the day,just like the xr3i's,I mean compare that to a 2.0litre astra gte,which was direct competition to the 3i,it had pas,elec everything,digi dash,rotted less,went a million times better,handled comparatively and was just as reliable.
Even a standard rst wasn't anything special back then,although the same bhp as a pug 1.9,the pug would maul it,and if you went near the twists that was that.

Then when you wanted a secnd car which an xr2i would fall into the price bracket and category it didnt even get considered by anyone. Poeple then bought rs turbo's, astra gte's, mk2 golf gti's etc and as Lamb says they were never cool EVER and never will be.
