Default 044 issues?

Hey all, just returned from central day, and the cossie is miss behaving, which is unlike mine!
The fuel pump (044, about 5000 miles old!) is stupidly noisy, as in, you can here it over the exhaust in the car clearly, was never that loud, and its missfiring like hell when i try and boost it, which sounds like low fuel too me?
I just really quickly threw my multi meter over the terminals and it said 6v!? I was struggling to get under there though, so will do a better test when im not dying of sunburn.
Would low voltage make one noisy?
It has an 044 rewire loom on so should be good voltage there!

Exactly like mine today...weird!

Mine broke Down on the way home, only about 3 mile away but it came back on again and got home ok.

Like you say, the pump has been very noisy and the symptoms are the same.

Pretty sure mines been re-wired so will just buy a new pump, told Matt Lewis today i may need one lol.

I believe my pump is not that old too.

The car was fine on short runs but last night on the way down it started to splutter etc...

On the way home....nearer home after a long run, same again.

I need a pump for my mk.2 escort so I will just buy one and try that.

I did re-set the fuel cut out switch, and it did fire up after that, but I did have a length of wire in the car ready and did put the pump to the battery live and that may have kicked the pump back on.

Took a fair bit of practicing to get mine down, 5-6k and just let go of the clutch, violent but effective!

A noisy pump doesnt mean anything is wrong.

they can get a little noisy in warm weather.

Mine do, but it never affects how the car performs

Why would it get noisey in warm weather? Your warm is 20 degrees? Iv ran mine in 45degree heat and its never got noisey on mine or my old mans 500

Dont really know why.

Mine tend to get noisy on say a 3-4 hour drive, but although the weather is warm for here, fuel temperatures arent exactly anything to worry about. Rarely over 30degC when on the move.

So I dont see how it can be fuel temperature that causes it. But the pumps do sound like they are cavitating or something. Although in my setup, the fuel supply from tank to pumps isnt anywhere near what it should be. But as stated, even on very warm days when sitting queuing to race etc, fuel temps are higher as are ambient. Despite any noise my pumps make, it never affects performance.

I have seen a post on a US forum where there are some forged 044's about. Instead of the lettering being stamped in, it's more like engraved in to the body.

For the people above, they'd need to check fuel pressure and power supply to the pumps before saying any pump is bad though.

Ive been using my pair for a few years now with no problems

If you do have poor voltage, check the earth point especially if its earthed to the body as this area should have regular maintenance to make sure it doesn’t corrode.
