Default STDCi Mondeo Rear Knocking Noise

Any Ideas Please ?

I have a 2005 Mondeo St TDCi that has a knocking noise coming from the rear, i have already had changed the rear sub frame bushes as they were U/S and rear springs because i had lost an inch or so off the end of the off side spring. We checked all the nuts for tightness on the rear suspension and checked the rear brake lines are clear. The noise only appears when i turn left onto the drive or reverse from it, a standard drop curb upto onto a flat driveway and when i turn sharply right into my road at low speed. The rest of the time it is ok, even on bumpy roads??? The noise is loud and makes me cringe, its not nice.

Come on guys any suggestions ?

I had a very similar noise and it turned out to be the exhaust hitting on the car's chassis hanger bracket. I got a stiffer powerflex one and it stopped it.

You can see the slightly darker patch on the exhaust where the hanger had been bashing it. Kind of under the near side rear door sort of position. I thought it was bushes at first too.

Hope it's as simple as that!

I didn't mention in my first thread that the rear sub frame bushes were changed on the service, at which point the garage pointed out i had a pin hole in the pipe before the rear box. When i took it back to further investigate, only a week later, the exhaust was hanging off and we thought that was the noise. It was replaced with an original back box but the rubber wasn't. I certainly think this is worth further investigation. Maybe thats why the exhaust broke through so quickly???

Might be worth a check.
Worth getting underneath and see if you can bang the exhaust onto the chassis or hanging pins anywhere. As the car corners (or drops from a kerb) the engine will flex on it's mounts and so move the exhaust.

Checked the exhaust and no joy it is clear, and the bushes were changed by a competent garage so i am still at a loss to what is causing the noise ???

the little rear arb drop links will be the cause if you've eliminated the exhaust and subframe bushes
