The new F10 BMW M5!!!
Looks brilliant, just like an M5 should look IMO... serious, but still quite anonymous.

New twin turbo V8 should be interesting too, they've said that there is a 25% increase in mpg over the previous V10 engine... which wouldn't be hard from what I've read!!
Cheers,
Grant

just finding my feet
well ive been reading up on the things for have done to the new 1.6 eco boost engines to improve fuel economy for emissions,,,, the work car companys are doing to hit these targets is imense
they have motorised flaps on the radiator grill that closes to reduce airflow over the rad to avoid over cooling the engine to save on fuel,,,,, imagine what BMW must have done pmsl

Yea, I'm pretty sure that as standard this car will seriously shift... so with a light fettle, it'll go way better than anything that size has any right to.
If the numbers are all adding up Stu, then I can't think of a better alternative if you're after a brand new ubersaloon... AMG Merc saloons aren't really my cuppa and I would only consider an RS6 Avant because I don't think the saloon suits the exploded arches. The only other ubersaloon that I'd possibly look at is the Jaguar XFR.

Grant

Unlike most people I am really glad they have decided/needed to go Twin Turbo V8...
Love Turbocharged engines in big cars... just works so well.
Gonna be a hell of a car
If I had a family... it would be a no brainer for me
Stu, do it!
however... they WILL drop money like a stone like all big BMW's do!

Its the fact its turbocharged that makes me want one, and I wouldnt buy it, i would lease it. the tuning potential is why I want to get my hands on one early doors.
However, if this thing has the new ethernet subsystem it may render tuning as a no go. Can you find out Carlos?

Glad they've gone the turbo route for the latest M5, will be good to see what the tuning houses do with it as well as private owners.
We've already had Straight Six M5's, NA V8 M5's, V10 M5's, so nice to see the variation coming in. Loved the V10 more than anyone, but they were best left alone tuning-wise. I think the Twin Turbo V8 will be ripe for plenty of tinkering.

BMW seem to have finally got over their recent turbo hangups, I couldnt work out why with the E46 they didnt allow the turbo to come with a diff etc and only let the M car have it, seemed like they were deliberately holding the turbo cars back.
Turbos are the immediate future of performance cars and im really pleased to see the M cars going that way.
Going to be some utterly loony numbers made by people modifying these I reckon!

What stu wants will no doubt be to enable his 100+ installers around the country to be able to install the maps simply into the car, and for the dealerships to not know it has been done, and preferably using the hardware they already have.
Evolution chips / MSD is a lot bigger than just a bloke tuning a car, for it to make commercial sense for him to put his resources into it he would need to know that his network could make use of the maps after he had developed them etc and if physically getting the map on is too hard or the dealership (or headquarters via a remote hookup) viewing them is too easy then its just not vialbe anymore.
Sadly, that may be the start of how all manufacturers are going to go though, so could be potentially the end of the tuning industry as we know it which would be a real shame in the case of things like diesel turbo daily drivers where so much benefit can be had from a remap.
Obviously there will always be people tuning cars, that'll never stop totally, but it could end up a lot more niche!
