Red face golf mk3 vr6 suspension fitting question with picture :-)

just a quick one, when fitting the standard suspension on the front of my mk3 golf VR6, there doesnt seem to be enough thread to stick the 21mm nut onto it when you poke it through the turrett in the engine bay, or do you bolt it all up to the hub and gently let the car down so the suspension compresses the rubber mount and then it gives you enough thread to stick the nut onto it?

blonde moment i know

or,seeing as its flexible rubber mounted on a spring, just get the nut in the socket, place it on top and push down as you turn it!

Are you sure the shock isn't compressed? Have you tried pulling the threaded part while holding the shock to pull it out of the shock.
