After looking for a good spec 2wd for so long with disappointment at most I looked at, I've gone & bought a really clean, well documented 4x4 & a ropey yet mechanically sound 2wd with the ideal I've making 1 good 2wd car from the pair!? So I'd use the 4x4 shell, engine & L8 with all the 2wd running gear.
There's a few things I'm not sure of as although I've reshelled a few I've never converted a complete 4x4 to 2wd, I know the obvious like rear beam, sump & pick up, all the front set up like rack ect but do I need to change the steering column? And apart from changing the sump & oil pick up over is there anything else I'd need to do in the engine bay?
Not 100% sure on this yet so just seeing what else would need changing.
Thanks J...

Steering column is the same, you will need along with the new 2wd rack, the link part between the end of the column and the rack itself as totally different size.
Although height adjusty on the 4wd where the 2wd isn't the column part that stick out through into the bay is the same, as I have just converted a 2wd one using a 4wd joint to delete the dreadful rubber flexy on the 2wd.
