Default Anybody ever modified a MK2 Mondeo to RWD?

Or half decent conversions at all on a MK2, ST200 specificly?

Been wondering for a while as have never seen anyone mod one myself.

I know of someone in Hampshire who a couple of years back started getting all the bits he could together to do one, not heard any news on it for ages tho, parts and shell must still be cluttering up his shed. He had got hold of an brand new Mk1 4x4 floorpan and rear axle beam, a sequential "type 9" replacement and was modifying a front subframe to take a Jag V8 the last I heard.

The expense and aggro for the end result make it not worth doing surely?

Squelch on MEG had a MK1 running a Rover V8. Apart from Martyns (4x4)it is the only RWD one that I know of.

Have thought of doing something stupid with the estate for a while now but really cant be bothered.

Andy Rouse did, didn't he? Converted 4x4 ones to RWD for BTCC use, but then got told off by Ford and had to use FWD, so the story goes anyway!

Very possible, but given the amount of effort just to end up with something not as good as going and buying an E36 for a grand, there isnt much point really is there?

Would have to a "doesnt matter that it makes no sense" thing done "just because" really, as it wouldnt serve any useful purpose.

Cars built for that reason rarely end up finished and see the road!
(although my nova did, lol)

The only Mondeos available at the time were 4x4 prototypes, monsieur Rouse is a natural fan of RWD, so 'converted' them. Problem being that they weren't competitive in that format because of the power losses through the Frankenstein stylee transmission...

They then had to 'resort' to FWD when FWD units became available.

Well that's how I understand it anyway

Vauxhall did the same with the cavalier 4wd and running it in RWD configuration, so I guess ford just wanted to try and actually win something like vauxhall had been doing recently before that with the mighty astra gte
