Default headgasket or thermostat focus rs

Right there is no water loss or smoke etc but when heaters are on there is an oily smell coming into the car,now the mrs rang me earlier to say the spa gauge was reading 104 i said thats when the fan gauge was reading 104 i said thats when the fan kicks in so should be ok she got to my dads to drop the little lad off and got him to check that there was plenty of water in the header tank. kicks in so should be ok she got to my dads to drop kicks in so should be ok she got to my dads to drop the little lad off and got him to check that there was plenty of water in the header tank He said as soon as he tried to open cap it was boiling up like mad so ive just been back to pick boiling up like mad so ive just been back to pick the lad up from my dads drove there and back 20 mile checked when i got home same cant open the cap as its boiling up, so had a look about and listen and the hose from rad to thermostat you can hear boiling and its pretty solid. So my question is headgasket on its way or thermostat maybe (hopefully) blocked? Any help greatful

Has the car been left idling for a long time at all?

Few weeks ago i was at wolviston left the st170 idling for a good hour and it started to boil up. Just turned it off left it to cool down had no problem since.

I would take the other lads advice over this mind, but its just a thought maybe it could have been left too long idling.

Whatever fair value is mate. I sold the car so no longer need them! I have a cat if by chance you need one of those.

I had a dreaded leak so bought both parts from Ford. I'm sure they were circa £80-90 but was ages ago so not 100%.

It was only the seal round the thermostat I think that was fucked so if I remember right I changed the smaller piece just for the sake of it but not the other, again I'd have to see the pieces to remember why. I think I was going to return the bigger more expensive piece.

I ended up keeping the piece and obviously still have the original smaller piece that was fine.
