2000 escort van not starting 1.8 n/turbo
hi just bought ex posty van went out today then pop into docs came out then van started then cut out, done it twice then batt went flat, got a jump then, started no bother, took it to ma dads house switch it off then tried it would not start flat batt tryed jump start then it stopped turning over at all, check all wires etc, all ok, its feels like the no power getting to starter then to then alternator to charge up batt. plus there a clicking noise from the rely at the inner wing which is bolted to the wing.

starter? they burn out a lot, or the starter sub wiring loom that runs to the alt, it's right in the firing line for water and shit down at the front of the engine .

Worth checking the interior fuse board pcb too, common mk5/6 fault. Mine wouldn't start and the problem was the fuse board has popped. Unfortunately I discovered this after buying a new starter motor

Check you have power to the starter one is a permanent live the other is ignition live if there is no power then the 60 amp maxi fuse by the battery has probably blown caused by the loom chafing through on the slam panel (it is a common thing)
