Default I dont wanna start a oil debate But...

Do you base it on wat temperature your engine runs at? With the e36 m3 evo, it runs at 105c so i used a 10-50, because maybe it would go as high as 110c.

Wat is the rule of thumb?

105-110degC is nothing to worry about.

yep thats fine most descent oils dont start working correctly untill around the 100 c mark like the titan 10/w50 and thats rated up to about 170c so you should be fine with that

If my oil temp was 170degC, id probably be rebuilding my engine.

My 4i used to run at 130C oil temp when running on lpg, as it did all the time, if that helps.

Mine get that hight taken from the oil filter, i'm using motul sport 5w50 if that makes a difference.

Sump, LPG does run a hotter chamber temps than petrol though.
