Got an escort van, engine give up, so bought a 1.8D Endurance DE engine from a more modern Fiesta Van. Ultimately the block is the same, and will be swapping everything over, however on the top of the diesel pump (attached to the front of the block) on the Fiesta block, the diesel pump has a sensor with a plug attached to it, whereas the escort one doesn't, does anyone know what this does? Someone has said it simply won't run, the other said it was a positioning sensor, any help is much appreciated thanks

This is a picture of the escort pump, the fiesta one is pretty much identical, but where the throttle cable attaches is where the sensor and plug is attached.

dont need to swap the pump. the metal box with the wire (where the stop solinoid normally is) is for the coded key. cut the box off with a grinder to reviel the stop solinoid which you can then connect your existing wire to. ignore all the other wires on the pump. you will need to use the fiesta throttle cable. ive got a fiesta endura de engine fitted to my mk3/4 van & it works fine without all the other wires connected

Cheers for the replies, ended up fitting the old pump in the end, it runs fine, only thing with it is it's really noisy? No smoke at all, don't know if anyone has any ideas? Can you advance/retard the timing via the diesel pump?
