Default What would you buy??Advice please

Right then folks

am having a bit of a dilemma.

I am moving to France very soon and I am in a bit of a predicament due to the modifying laws in France.

After 90 days I have to register the uk car in France and have French plates.
I have to have a certificate of conformity,so the car has to be standard,to get this.

I was planning on getting another rs turbo, but because It can't be fettled with I think il end up being rather dissapointed,as my previous one was circa 180bhp.

Now next summer I have some money coming my way, 15k.
So I thought if I get a better car with good power etc it will be better in the long run.

I have looked at the following cars

sierra cosworth 4x4
escort cosworth
Mitsubishi lancer evo 5
Subaru impreza sti classic shape

however insurance is my problem as will not have had my licence long.

insurance wise, the escos is 3200 per year fully comp, and the evo is 4800 fully comp.impreza is 3200 fully comp
I know these are high quotes but bearing in mind, licence held for not to long.

What would you guys do? I'd prefer to stay in the ford scene and have 4wd for the country lanes.

Thanks in advance

jamie

With those quotes I would buy a drugged up eastern European girl from some dodgy Serbs and get her on the game!

There's a lad at work paying 3800 on a zetec s fiesta. I'd seriously get a slower car and get some no claims and years on your licence. I was pissed off with 500 quid insurance never mind over 3k

My first car that I owned and had my own full policy (not named driver) I was paying Ł1400 and that was 2000. Wonder what the equivalent is these days?

But I must admit lads drive like twats these days.

Even if I get a shitbox fiesta 1.1 it will be nearly a grand insurance, escort rs turbo I can have for 1600 quid.
I'd rather pay a bit more per month and have something decent,I couldn't go below a 1.6 as my first car was a rs turbo rep xr3i efi.

So the car will be insured through a british insurance company but french registered?

If I could i would moth ball the RS or sell/break it. Buy a cheap run about thats economical (boring I know) then you would have more money next summer, extra NCB to get something better/more modded/powerful?????

Through a french company then? Can you speak french? You will need to or know a good friend that does to sort everything out for you.

If you're really going to swallow that level of insurance, and if you're really going to keep them standard... then I'd go for a very late Impreza Version 5 or Version 6 STi Type RA, out of the box, the best option given the type of car you're interested in.

Cheers,
Grant

3 grand to insure a car? You need your head reading to even consider that.

If he can afford it, why not?

Wish I could afford that. I hate paying Ł900 and I'm 28 with an ST3.
Fucks me right off when you see in the back of Fast Ford and the such in the sales section and Adrian Flux give a rough quote. 23 yo, 3 points, 4 years ncb Ł500. How the fuck do they get that! Wankers!

I can sort the insurance out as I know the woman who works in the agf office, she speaks fluent french and English so that won't be a problem.
Sti type ra is 280bhp standard and with shortened gear ratios so deffo would be something to consider, although it would probably be modded when I bought it so would have to be put back to standard.
Have been toying with the idea of emerald k3 management and having 1 of the maps set to standard, use that and whip the exhaust of for a standard one for the controls technique (mot).
Then once passed put exhaust back on and then stage 3 map,big power

Is France a total no no to mods of any kind then? Even if TUV approved?

I believe so,no engine mods allowed although I've seen a few cars with aftermarket back boxes.
Doubt the gendarmes would take too kindly to a modded 300bhp motor with dump valve etc

Is there a time scale the car has to be there before registering it?

It pisses me off seeing all the Polish number plates, we need stricter rules!. I have seen the same BMW M5 on Polish plates for over a year. Will he get speeding fines? Does he have to tax it? Does he have to insure it? Fucking doubt it, bet there are loop holes they know!

(and thats not a racist rant on the poles!)

I would go for the scoobie personally, loads to choose from so you can pick up a tidy car cheap and in standard form it is going to be a realiable fun car out of the box.

Get a well modded car, then visit the uk each 89 days, so it doesn't need registering
easy ?, god it sounds a bit strict, but french birds are awsome, if you're single have fun I did when younger, even got something I didn't want and it wouldn't go away even with the special tablets!!
