Default cosworth help

lately when starting the saff it sounds as if it isnt going to start,when you turn the key it turns over really slow like as if the battery is flat but it isnt then itl fire up is this the starter motor foooked?? cheers

hi scottyrs,i had the same problem as you and it did turn out to be the starter.my starter would drain the battery aswell.

sounds like a battery drain somewhere.......and i hate electrics!

does it happen when its been left a day or so?

yes mate doesnt get started that often, but i used it for work the other day it was lazt starting then on way to work i stopped at shop then didnt think it was going to start turning over really slow had to rev it and it went same after work! one thing after another!!!!

is the battery being charged? you need to get the multimeter out!

its never gets used much ussualy flat so i have to charge the battery then its fine but its never done this ill have to check cheers, so its not worth trying to get a starter?

If it's ok after charging then the starters ok, as said need to establish battery voltage when having issues.
Any DC motor, like the starter will be very sensitive to battery voltage.

you could do with a multimeter and see if the alternator is charging.

Basically a fully charged battery should be 12V+, when the car is running you want to be seeing 13V+ with no load, this is to overcome the internal resistance of the battery.

Multimeters comes in many varietys, the more sophisticated obviously=more expense, but for a basic one expect to pay around £5-£10

As said if it's turning over slowly it's going to be down to the battery.

Just thought i,d mention mine was turning over slowly for while until it actually died completely i thought the batt had finally given up , this was all rectified by me wiggling the solenoid wire only
Very sensative it seems
