My boss has just finished fixing a cat c passat. He emailed the powers that be about it an they replied saying that it didn't need to be vic checked. So not all cat c's need it.

Any car that is notified to DVLA on or after 7th April 2003 as having been written off (category C), regardless of the date of accident, will require a VIC before a replacement registration document can be issued.
Google search.

All Cat Cs need a VIC check. Your boss is mistaken, either car is a cat D or he needs a VIC. Has he tried applying for a logbook yet?

Complete and utter bollocks,it's all down to vosa,I've lost count how many times this questions been answered!!!!
Tried taking a van for a vic check?that's right, you haven't because commercials don't need them, just something to make a note of.

Mat,if you type the reg into the Dvla website on the vehicle enquiry page then it tells you if a vic marker is on the car, takes 2 minutes.

Forget commercials, are you saying that not all cat c cars need a vic check to obtain a logbook?

Yes tis true squire, quite a common mistake to make.
Sorry if I was a tad harsh,it's just I've answered it a few times on here and some of the replies are just preposterous.
I argued with one guy on here that it was possible to tax it at the post office without it going for a vic check first when he claimed stone dead it wasn't even though I'd taxed my jeep that day at the post office!!!!

From what i've seen vic marker only goes on if its being claimed on from your own insurer, i.e you drive into the back of someone and claim on your own insurance.
