Default Sapphire with rs turbo or zvh turbo (what gearbox)????

Hi there guys im new to this forum. Im a regular user of Driftworks. Ive just brought a Sapphire and want to turbo it. First off it will be used for drifting and theres something about drifting a turbo'd car that I just cant get away from. I even refused to let my mate v8 it.

The car is near enough mint rust wise and panels. I cant find any rust which is an excellent start anyway.

Right my question to you is what if any gearbox can i mount to a 1.6 rs turbo or zetec turbo that will allow me to put it in my Sierra?

I look forward to getting to know you guys and let you watch the build thread ill be putting on here.

Cheers Mike

a type 9 will bolt to it but you will need a clutch adapted to fit .....

all old fords tend to have the same bolt pattern its the clutch and flywheels that cause problems ....

give burtons a ring for info

Not a problem mate, Fudgey seems pretty helpful IMO so I'm sure he'll put you right. Can I ask why a zetec turbo and not a cosworth YB? The reason I ask is because I'm sure it would work out cheaper to buy a rotten/crash damaged running cossie and transfer the running gear into your shell than build a ZT from scratch. What sort of power are you aiming for? I really wouldn't go for a cvh turbo lump either in a Sierra IMO.

Well if i was to RS turbo engine it, it would be all done for less than £1000. ZT Would be a little more. But I cannot YB it as people will come up to me and ask if its a cossy and me with a smugg look can go NO. Then look at the baffled brains and it goes "watoosh"

Dont know how long its going to take but starting it soon.

i have a rwd zvh in my pop. was very easy to sort out. all i did was have the zetec flywheel re-drilled (and ballanced) for a pinto clutch then just bolted up a type 9. works fine. not sure how long the box's lifespan will be but i dont spank the arse out of it much anyway.

Seems quite simple how did you find the wiring? Don't know if it will mount on the original engine mounts but ill fabricate something.

If the saff is for drift use forget the Type 9 box. Use the mt75.
But you would be best of cheating and fitting an SR20DET lump and box. Zetecs don't like revs.

Zetec turbos do atleast i thought they did. anyway its got good touques...
