Brilliant comfy motors i had the 4.0 se and then the 4.6 but be prepared to have an empty wallet!!!
Only problem i had was the air bags but it was due to my own fault had it jacked up when i was fitting my stainless exhaust dropped it down too quickly and burst one of the bags, An expensive error so i ended up on coilovers too.
Wish i never let mine go a hell of a lot of motor for not really alot of money nowadays
enjoy!

Welcome to the Range Rover world Tony i have a 1998 DSE, Range Rovers are great for comfort ect but they are not know for their reliability, you'll be getting your hands dirty faily regular.

The suspension is a bit complex and it can be a bastard but can be cheap to fix as not everythnig fails the same time

Shifty , the DSE diesel likem i have is slightly under powerd but mine is chipped and it can lift its skirt if you want it to.
Heater 0 rings can leak , where the pipes go into the matrex and blend moters for the heater go wrong and a bit of a pain to change.
Dont use the Land Rover dealers for repairs as it will need a lottery win to pay them

Dawson bursting a bag means the bag was on its way out and you could have fixed it for about Ł 70 and there are faily simple to replace, i can now do a rear or front pair of air springs in less than a hour, i have thought about changing to springs but i would like to have a drive in one converted to springs.

Mine is the same colour as yours Batey.

Thease sites may help.

I have the suspension software and am now some what of an air suspension expert
not as difficult to fix as you may think but then I am a bit of a clever fooker
running one is fairly cheap I have adopted the Paul north yorks approach "don't use them"
Just got to get the etagas mapping software, leads and dongle I may fit an lpg system to a cossie next
I was looking at a t34 yesterday on the bench whilst fitting the gas to the rangie thinking hmmm one on each bank would be nice

Tony if your bored and enjoy playing with rangy's , feel free to come round and rebuild the 4.6 that's half hanging out of mine .

Porous blocks, headgaskets, snapped bolts, no space to get normal tools In to do simple jobs are the usual with these, never mind the 8mpg that they deliver round town. For some strange reason i regret ever buying one

Suspension software is handy as it can cost more to read the faults and clear than to fix the faults , dealers charge Ł96 to clear a fault where i live.

Tony i have a mate work in a independent 4x4 garage where i can use their rovocom laptop to check and clear faults but i have seen the leads and software available, i might look into getting myself one, i do have the air recovery system on mine where you can pump up the suspension with a airline if it develops a fault and sinks on its bump stops.

you mean some tyre valves
mine had them on when i bought it they leaked more than the air bags would lol
the ebay lead works fine, the diagnosis like on any car is correct interpretation of the faults, not something one would associate with a main stealer

Ironically they hate being left unused for any period of time, if you use them everyday they seem to be mint...

In the last 25K mine has not let me down once...... it did develop a misfire on boost which i diagnosed quickly as auxiliary fuel pump and sorted it before it failed, apart from that it`s had a couple of tyres, servicing, a N/S/F suspension sensor, N/S/F lower arm and a pair of front drop links...

Pretty mundane consumable stuff really

Tyre valves leaking ??? , mine are been on 7 years and not a leak, maybe Stevie Wonder fitted yours lol, maybe i should'nt have said that, and talking of depreciation a brand new Range Rover supercharged Sport depreciats Ł48 a day, my neighbour has a new one every year and thats what it costs him and then Ł6 every 18 miles for fuel but it spend half its time in a Range Rover workshop with trouble.

The good thing about owning a diesel Range Rover when i get in my Cosworth it feels like a Bugatti Veron

My mate had to put a replacement block in his 4.6 due to slipped liners, i'm now looking to get a discovery 2 can buy a 4.0 v8 cheaper than a TD5 but worried about the liners in the 4.0 even tho i've been told the newer 4.0L's are ment to be better.

apparently a range rover depreciates at the rate of 1k a month thats over Ł30 a day if you work on a 7 day week lol
if we work on a 40 hour week thats at a loss rate of Ł6.25 per hour after tax

i've got a dse 2.5, it's not "that" slow tbh, yes it's no rocket ship but it'll cruise at 70-80 effotlessly.

the air suspension diagnostic program is a handy thing, shame theres no free software for the engine ecu.

Quick Reply: just bought a p38 4.6 hse range rover
