hi, anyone know how to wire a standard rev counter into an ohv with a coilpack and get an acurate reading??
any help appreciated, cheers

In short you can't.
The longer answer is it will need connecting to BOTH sides of the coilpack plug.
In the three pin connector the outer wires are the negative switching side, the centre is the live, that is fed to both sides of the coilpack, the problem being that you need to keep these seperate, but joined!!
The solution is to use 2 rectifier diodes, like 1N5408, about 10p each from maplins, wire these in line with a wire from each outer wire of the coilpack, which then join to a single wire, like a "Y" split in reverse, feed this into the rev counter on the std green wire feed, and it should work 100%.
The orientation of the diodes is critical, as they need to block each others signal from reaching each other, diodes are a one way electrical valve, so current will only flow away from the coilpack sides into the y and not the other way, the silver band on the diode faces the rev counter.
