Default where can i get a worm and cog for my spit?

i had my blacksmith pal make me a spit,it works well but when the car gets near vertical it is trying to pull you off your feet.what i need is a cog and a worm to keep it under control when turning it over and to lock it at different angles, also so i can do it on my own.i have checked ebay but no success, any ideas?

I'd suggest a cog system like you find on a winch as it's designed to be pretty low geared and usually has some sort of locking system on it as well.probably get one off a boat quite cheaply or even and old towing dolly etc.

if i could get a worm and a wheel i could make plates to hold it and weld the wheel to the part which the spit rotates on,as it is its bloody dangerous as when it gets past a certain point theres no stopping it,i removed the engine and box today hoping that would help balance it but if it wasnt for a ratchet strap safety system then the car would have been upside down again.

Was also going to suggest this company. We use them at work for spur gears and worms/worm wheels. If they've got the part in stock you should be able to get it within a day or 2 and if you need any machining doing to the parts they can do it in-house for you (at a cost).

You shouldn't need any gears tbh, you need to adjust the brackets that mount to the shell so the c of g is centered properly, once sorted you can spin the shell wherever you like with ease. Then you can drill a few holes in the spindles so the shell can be fixed at o', 45' 90' etc.

i thought about the center of gravity and adjusting the brackets, looks like thats what ill do to be safer as until youre hanging onto the end of a pole with no help you dont appreciate the force this thing has.
a worm and wheel would do the trick but there would be some stress on the gear,if it gave and you were next to it it would fxk your day up.

Just put it together,I re-did the mounts to lower the center of gravity,I can spin it myself now but I'm going to remove the seats to lose some weight, they need to come out anyway!
