Insurance on cheap bangers
Who's cheap? I'm 25 with 4 years NCB and can't seem to get a quote under £1000 on a cheap banger (< £500). Tried a few different cars. I was getting quotes from Adrian Flux. I paid less than that a year ago for a BMW M3 with them

what old bangers are they?
reason i ask is because old cars with no factory fitted immobilzer will be high to insure. as an example, i'm 31 with 11 years NCB, got an online quote for my first ever car which was a D reg 1.3 astra, the quote was £472 something!! - amended the car to my Mrs 316i compact bmw (s reg) and it was £311

Depends if your cheap banger is fast and/or easy to nick. Strangely, I've found choosing only third party or TPFT seems to increase quotes.
Instead of falling with my increased NCB this year, my renewal was twice what I paid last time! Needless to say, I went elsewhere.

I tried on a 1992 Nissan Primera estate, (1.6), 206 Roland Garros (1.6) and a Citroen C2 1.4 (insurance group 3)
The C2 was the cheapest at about £700. Still a piss take. I have a BMW M3 Evo convertible on a modern classic policy for £450

Got a mate with a trade policy?shove it on that and drive it 3rd party off your own fully comp insurance.otherwise,if said mate has a car sales, give him a few $$$ to put you on the policy, you can always say you deliver cars for him etc or even a bit of valeting and the pay is that you get to use his insurance, there's loads of ways round it.
Cue the moral high ground people on here but this goes and has gone on for years, you are insured and whatever you watch on these Billy bullshit roadwars type programs take with a huge block of salt.
99.79234613% of insurance policies state that you can drive any car 3rd party provided it doesn't belong to you and is insured by somebody else.

This used to be true, not so much these days - easy enough to check though. I know my insurance doesn't cover me for this, nor my previous policy, both fully comp.
