Angry Why are people so retarded!!!!!!

....when it comes to Ebay. Do people not understand that if you save your outragious bids until the very last minute, you can get what you're bidding for much cheaper than expected.

Instead they keep pushing and pushing the bids higher for the hell of it!!!

RANT OVER!

That'll be me then.

If I see something I want I just bid what im prepared to pay and leave it at that, and if I win I win and if I dont I dont.

My mrs on the other hand has to wait until 3 seconds before the end of the auction and "snipe" it every time.

She does get stuff cheaper as a result im sure, but I simply cant be arsed with the hassle.

If you want it, and thats what your willing to pay for it then why not?

Obviously someone wanted something almost as much as you did. But whos the fool, the one who put in a bid for something that's more than its worth or the one not expecting to pay what its worth.

But you obviously have enough cash knocking about not to worry about paying a few extra quid for something you want

95% of the stuff I get on ebay is buy it now anyway, but for the things I bid on, I always snipe at the last second! Gets me a right sweat on sometimes too

This is why ebay is basically flawed as an "auction" site.
Putting a time limit on, means people will try to snipe it.

In a real auction everyone bids in real-time until no-one will increase the bid any more.
To make ebay more realistic, the seller should have the absolute power to stop the auction at any time during his 7 days so all the snipers would have to bid whatever the item is worth to them or risk coming back and finding it gone.

But the point I'm getting at, Ebay has been going for years and yet people are still stupid enough to bid what they wanna pay i.e. Ł100 for something, instead of waiting for the last 10 seconds and bidding and winning the item for a tenner!

Now I won what I was after for Ł80 less than I thought I'd win it for, but that's due to patience and the benefit of having ebay updates on my Blackberry

If anything I would say sniping is the retarded way to do things.

Just put what you would be willing to pay then check back later to see if you have won it. Rather than just sitting waiting for the clock to tick down and up paying more than you wanted for the sake of winning the item.
Its not like putting in Ł100 suddenly take the price of the item up to Ł100!

Then you end up not making the reserve sometimes and dont get to buy the item even though you were prepared to pay for it

Depends on the item what is the better option, but personally Im just happy generally to just put in a bid and then see what happens a few days later.

Thing is though IMO, you don't want to start the bidding war too early. If you put in a bid, someone else puts in a bid that tops yours, then someone else does the same it goes on and on, whereas if you wait for the last second to bang your bid in, then it discourages people from bidding up and up and up to become the highest bidder as that's when the price goes up.

The bid goes to your maximum if the reserve is still not met.

Surely the best way is to bid the maximum you're prepared to pay in the dying seconds of the auction to PREVENT anyone from having the chance to bid above you. I can't see how that's retarded in the slightest. It's the best way to get what you want for price you're prepared to pay, with the potential to get it cheaper.

Strange isn't it?

When people are offering goods for sale, they're are almost shouting at their 125 watchers, "bid now you imbeciles, let us get the price of my item maximised"

Yet when you're one of those very 125 watchers, & some "fool" puts a bid on (usually at 6 days to go) you're shouting "Don't bid now you imbecile, let us keep the price of this item minimised"

I suppose it just goes to illustrate the duality of man

If you start bidding early you are just encouraging a bidding war, the idea of an auction really but no good for the punter. A max bid at the last minute is the way to go, if not sportsmanly.

I do love the 'will not end early' response only to end it early as someone has made an offer you can't refuse, or pulling it as you flap it that it wont reach what you want.

But the best and most stupid of all is '99p start NO RESERVE' who gives a fook, the seller isn't going to let it go for 99p , it is irrelevant and if they fail to get near the reserve they will be getting it bidded up or pulled.

perhaps ebay should ask to put a secret max price in there so that if you should meet that price you automatically win

that way you still win if you get what you are after and pay for it or you let it run and get it for a potential bargain

i love how a few people who actually sit infront of there computers watching the last few seconds as it ticks down thinking they will put the last bid in!!

Havent you people ever heard of snipping software.

Set your max price and it will automatically bid for the item 2 seconds before the auction closes, so you can go out and do what you want

i always use auction sniper. put in my max bid & auction sniper puts that in 3 seconds before the end. early bidding wars are good if your selling. i start thing at 99p with no reserve. gets people really excited

I put a Ł10 bid on a genuine ford ST24 bumper 17 hours before it was due to finish, got home from work the following night and id won it.. just swings and roundabouts, if theres something id genuinely want i always ask the seller if he will end, mainly with cars and a lot do because they skip paying the full fees and being timewasted, i offered the guy Ł400 for my st24, he said Ł500 come get it tonight (tuesday) i couldnt till Saturday so he declined me, let the auction run, and someone won it for Ł790 and then didnt make any contact with him, then he rang me the next day and said it was mine for Ł500 if i still want it lol

Of course you would be excused for thinking that Dan, but my tastes are in old books (no, not that kind of book ) not terribly bothered where I acquire the scarce tomes that interest me, so long as they end up in my collection.

I find Ebay a great leveller, truly a classless society, far more interesting (& it must be said, fun! ) than buying from a dealer, who usually has been most imaginative in his pricing regime.

I disagree. The price goes up because people are prepared to pay that. Most things sell for their market value. Whether you bid at the start or the end doesn't affect the price.
