ford fiesta mk 4 1.8d endura de diesel ,

Just installed a new drive belt tensioner and drive belt but it makes a noise (grinding /squealing) when ever I first start up???

I tightened the tensioner to about a 1/4 inch movement on the belt and it still makes a noise - I tried losening it and it makes more noise .

The battery light has also started to stay on for a minute or so when I first start up and idle?
feels like its slipping or something. I checked the pully allignment and they seem fine - I tested for lateral movement on the pulleys and only one moves ever so slightly. did not see any stones wedged in the pulleys. there is a lot of grease/grime near one of the pulleys so not sure if it is picking up a bit of grease - does not really make sense though for it to do that?

when I put the tensioner on I tightend the center bolt fully .
