they are very good on fuel but the ones i've driven and the folks i know who's owned them have all said they were cheap and tacky, either as a mk3 or mk4

and they don't brake well or handle well compared to more modern cars

but if it's cheap and you need it, well, beggers can't be chosers

I'd do the sensible thing and something very cheap and economical.

Mark Corbett has got an Astra GSi he's breaking if that helps at all!

I think they're very underated, they handle and grip very well imo, esp if they have the much needed extra rear arb.

I really have to disagree with you on the handling issue. They are boaty fuckers of things especially at standard ride height. As said above it all depends on the engine size aswell. The mk3 came with a 1.8 8v.2.0 8v and 2.0 16v both red top and Eco tec. my mate has had countless amounts of them and swears by the red top all day long as the best all rounder but if it's cheap and you won't be keeping it then any will do the job and as long as it has a long mot then you will always get your Ł back for it.

Had a mk3, absolutely loved it, had a decent suspension kit on it and it handled very well, brakes arent great with 150bhp and definately werent good enough after i had throttle bodies etc. i was only 18 at the time and it was brilliant fun when all my mates had 1.1 puntos and corsas lol
